A local woman is charged with animal cruelty after her daughter says her mother slammed a family pet into the ground, killing it.
BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio—A pet’s skull was crushed, and police reports said the Chihuahua’s owner is suspected in the crime. Police said the suspect’s teen daughter watched and was the one who called authorities.

Retta McKibben’s 14-year-old daughter called authorities Tuesday, July 7, saying her mom was drunk and had slammed her pet Chihuahua, Zoe, into the ground, killing it, according to Buckeye Lake police.
Officers found the dog’s body outside McKibben’s home. Police said Zoey was wrapped in a blanket and placed on a chair next to a trash can.
Buckeye Lake resident Retta McKibben was taken into police custody and charged with animal cruelty.
The dog’s skull was crushed and its spinal cord was ripped away from the base of its skull, according to a necropsy report.
Neighbor Christy Housley said McKibben loved her four dogs and helped find homes for other animals. Housley said she got her dog Sable from McKibben.
Authorities said McKibben had a fairly clean record previously.
She was ticketed two weeks ago after one of McKibben’s other dogs got out of her house and attacked another dog. McKibben also had some traffic violations.
McKibben’s other three dogs were taken into custody by animal officials.
She was arraigned in court Tuesday. McKibben received a $,5000 cash surety bond.
She could face as much as 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fee in the misdemeanor charge.

alcoholics will only get help when it hurts them bad enough. it is time mom goes to rehab.the children are seeing this and are being hurt emotionally and physically. the children need to be in a stable home free from this abuse and hopefully get some therapy of there own they need to know that what happened was not their fault.
Looks like mommy likes to get sauced up and take out her frustrations on the children and the pups. I say the dogs get taken away, as well as the children until they fully investigate the accusations of child abuse listed on the police report. LAY OFF THE BOOZE GIRLFRIEND!! fixfireleo—you hit the nail on the head, spot on. Who gets killed next? Alcohol is not an EXCUSE to kill. I’m sick that this case is being treated that way. IF her children are still in her care - SHAME on the State of Ohio!! How many red flags do they need? This woman is a danger to everyone and everything around her. Every living creature. Let her off herself first before touching another.
so she’s a drunk, she murdered the dog in a drunken rampage but its OK for her to keep the kids…..with no other targets around to take out her anger on. hmmmm.
I agree with whoever said the sicko needs to have her head slammed on the ground like she did to that innocent, tiny dog. This is evil we’re dealing with. I think the state should take her children away from her and lock her up for good. This is the most horrible thing I’ve read in a long, long time. God bless her daughter - may she find a new home and abandon the evil known as her “mom.“ forever.

The aticle made it sound like she just threw the dog to the ground….The kids report sounds like goo ol mom repeatedly slammed the dog to the ground like you swing a hammer at a nail.
These kids need to go to a good home until Mom can prove that she can stay sober enough to care for them.
I’m just glad it wasn’t an article about her doing this to one of the kids.
She needs help and so do the children.
This is the saddest story I’ve seen all week. I have a little girl and I can only imagine how this will affect the daughter in her life.
Obviously the mother has a lot of emotional pain herself that is leading to her alcohol problems/violence. I hope this family can get out of the cycle they seem to be in.
