GREEN CAMP, Ohio —Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey and his office continued to investigate what looks like a random stabbing on a school bus Monday morning.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said that at 7:47 a.m. Monday, a 911 call was received at the sheriff’s office, reporting a stabbing on a school bus at Elgin Junior High School.

Officials determined a 13-year-old girl stabbed a 14-year-old boy—both students at the school.

According to investigators, the stabbing occurred on an Elgin Local bus as students were exiting.

“The bus had arrived at the school in the parking lot and they began unloading when both students stood up and the young boy turned around and was facing the girl when she just started stabbing him,“ Bailey said.

Bailey said students alerted school administrators who boarded the bus and took the three-inch folding knife from the girl. He said she took the knife to school from her home.

The victim was taken to Marion General Hospital and then flown to Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

The victim’s condition was not known, but officials said the boy suffered multiple stab wounds to the upper body.

Deputies are examining surveillance video from the camera on the school bus.

Bailey said the girl suspected in the stabbing most likely will face a juvenile count of felonious assault. She was undergoing a psychological evaluation and will then be taken into custody.

The boy was facing the suspect when the alleged stabbing happened, but Bailey said the two students were not friends.

Elgin Local Schools released a statement regarding the incident that read, in part, “We had an incident involving two students at Elgin Junior High that we believe to be a random act of violence. The district took steps to ensure the safety of our students. The district is cooperating with local law enforcement agency during the investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families involved.“

Investigators said there was no known motive and no other injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.

Why is it that every time an incident like this happens, that it’s always because of other kids being verbally abusive to someone?  Is this what kids
are being taught by their parents?  To treat people that are different or just trying to be themselves, to be persecuted.  I have heard so much from my grandson about kids calling other boys gay or weird because they don’t play sports, wear the same clothes or have their hair the way everyone else does.  This is sad.  Kids should be taught to treat people kindly no matter what their preferences are.  Everyone doesn’t have to be like or doing the same things as everyone else.  That’s is why we all look different and have differen personalities.  It doesn’t make you wrong or a bad person to try to be an individual.  Kids need to be taught to respect the choice of others.  I think there would be less violence if they did.

Facing her when she attacked him? I think someone isn’t telling the entire story.

I would like to comment about the statement pylestone has made about this on going and developing investigation. First off I would like to point out your stance that has been taken from an article that has since been removed from the the Marion Star. After reading several articles about acts of random violence it seems like you have.

1) Blamed the entire Marion school district on an act of violence by a girl that did not even enter the school. Then later stating she was a victim.

2) Blamed the entire Marion school district and accused the boy that was stabbed multiple times of bullying without any first hand knowledge of the incident and forming a stance on the case from an article that has already been removed from the Marion Star.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I believe without proper and complete investigation, you should have no right to place blame on any school district or anyone including the boy who s condition is unknown.

I would like to say that not all schools allow bulling or take it lightly, my children go to Olentangy Schools and this would NEVER have been tolerated in this district!! Sounds like Marion schools need to relook at their policy and maybe who is in charge! As for the victim I was feeling sorry for the boy at first until I read a commentat marionstar.com that has now been removed and I have come to the conclusion that they are both victims! It is sad that someone felt that their only protection was violence and had no one to turn to that they felt would protect them. As for the boy pray that fully recovers and learns a lesson from what has happened..

im a junior at EHS and im friends with the boys sister too. i do feel sorry for him but i agree with whoever that sophmore is. it is rumored that he was talking about her..BUT THAT WAS RIDICULOUS OF THE GIRL TO STAB HIM. there are WAYY better ways of dealing with things then stabbing..but this was seriously just a shock because elgin is such a small school with only occasional fights and NOBODY expected this.

I am a 10th grade student at Elgin High School, and I know the boy’s older sister. What is rumored is that the boy was talking about this girl and she got mad and pulled a knife out. We send our thoughts and prayers for the boy’s family. The girl is held in custody right now. Elgin Junior High School was in lockdown all day today.

What a senseless tragedy! What oh what is happening to our youth? Pray for all involved, that the boy heals quickly and completely and that the girl is dealt with properly and the reason for this happening in the first place is investigated thoroughly!
