COLUMBUS, Ohio—Young people from Columbus, Upper Arlington and Violet Township are taking part in a unique one-week academy that gives them hands-on firefighting and EMS skills.

Students learn to make fire runs, load patients onto back boards and rescue mannequins from smoke filled fire towers.

Five or six former students have gone back to Hocking College for certification. Some current students came from as far away as New Jersey to attend this year’s academy.

The program has been held at Hocking College for the past six years. Graduation is scheduled for Saturday.

I’ll second that.  We missed the video also.  Please post.

Is there any chance you could put the video about this that you showed on today’s 5:30 edition here on the web?

I’m the mom of the girl you interviewed and I missed it, darn it! Thanks so much for covering it.

For others reading this, I highly recommend this program. This is my daughter’s 2nd year attending (progressive learning each year by the way), and she absolutely loves it. They even have a scholarship program that can cover the cost if your child qualifies. Visit their website for more info if you’re interested at www.OhioYouthFire.org
