BBB Warns Consumers About Contractor Biz
Bad Contractor?
The Better Business Bureau gives one Central Ohio business a failing grade.CENTRAL OHIO—- The Better Business Bureau gave one Central Ohio business a failing grade.
NBC 4’s Tacoma Newsome reported on BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY Wednesday.
“He was supposed to plaster this wall. He was supposed to make a door here. He was supposed to drywall,“ homeowner Richard Hecock said.
Hecock was talking about the list of items Jeremy Adams of ABC General Contracting was supposed to complete at Hecock’s home.
ABC General Contracting’s address was listed as 7270 E. US Highway 36 in Cable, Ohio.
“He’s real personable. He’s a real friendly person so he kind of befriends you real easy,“ Hecock said of Adams.
Hecock and Adams’ friendly rapport went sour quickly, though.
According to complaints to the BBB, ABC General Contracting, which is owned by Adams, was responsible for nearly $30,000 dollars in incomplete repairs.
Hecock gave ABC General Contracting $1,000 down and money for supplies that totaled $6,500 dollars, but then Adams stopped coming altogether, according to the complaint.
“One time, he called and said he was in the hospital, and then I asked, ‘What hospital are you in?‘ and that’s when he changed his story and hung up on me,“ Hecock said.
Newsome called Adams Wednesday, and he blamed the situation on a business partner.
“I had a partner who was working with me, and he took all these people’s money, and he decided to split,“ Adams said.
Adams went on to apologize and said he would return Hecock’s money and try to make things right with his other customers.
It remained to be seen whether Adams will make good on his promises.
In the meantime, Hecock had some solid advice for others.
“If the contractor is asking you to put down a lot of money up front, walk away.“

Thank you to BBB and NBC for doing this story and Tacoma for doing the interview.
I think you should also do a story on all of the dead beats that refuse to pay contractors after the work is complete. It goes both ways.
