Officials Confirm 6th Local H1N1 Case

Officials confirm a sixth local case of H1N1 influenza in an adult male Wednesday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Officials confirmed a sixth local case of H1N1 influenza in an adult male Wednesday.

The individual has been voluntarily isolated and was being treated.

Local public health officials were investigating all contacts.

The Franklin County probable H1N1 case in an elderly man from last Wednesday tested negative for the virus, according to health officials.

Ohio has a total of 13 confirmed cases, and six of them are in Franklin County.

Of the six Central Ohio cases, five confirmed patients have ties to The Ohio State University.

The most recent case involves a 21-year-old resident advisor at Canfield Hall.

Last week, a 19-year-old student at Canfield Hall was confirmed to have the virus and the health department is attempting to determine what connection the two students may have, if any.

Other students to have confirmed cases involve a female at Morrison Tower. Another student, the first at OSU to be confirmed, lived at Stradley Hall.

An OSU Medical Center employee was the first person to have a confirmed case and led to the preventative treatment of several Columbus and Grandview Heights firefighters.

The university is four weeks from commencement and has no plans to close any residence halls.

Butler County: one case in a 30-year-old male.
Cuyahoga County: two cases in a 41-year-old female and 9-year-old male.
Franklin County: six cases in a 31-year-old male, 33-year-old male, 18-year-old male, 20-year-old female, a 19-year-old female and the new case in a 21-year-old male.
Fulton County: one case in a 10-year-old female.
Holmes County: one case in a 47-year-old female.
Lorain County: one case in a 9-year-old male.
Portage County: one case in a 39-year-old female.

Ohio had 19 suspected cases of H1N1 Wednesday.
