Actually 6 out of 20 songs were Patriotic…
So we are celebrating our Independence with other songs???,....Does that sound right….
So in another couple years when they start playing the Canadian Anthem, and the Spanish Anthem and the French Anthem, you would be alright with that?...Before you say anything about me being mean or hating other countries,..this is AMERICA, not France, Not Mexico, not Canada….This is America…If I go to Canada, I will hear Canadian songs, if I go to France, I will hear French songs,..This is America…and this is our Independence…Thank you…

diamondhair1, my comments were directed at the general list of complaints in all the posts, not just you. Mainly the idiots saying “Go to Russia, commie, blah blah blah.“

Now to address you directly, I think more than half the songs were patriotic, and the others were just used to look cool with the fireworks. I see nothing wrong with that myself. People came to celebrate America, and to see some fireworks, so I don’t see why it has to be just songs with our country’s name in the words or title to be a celebration of our great country.

ArmyOflarry….I never said anything about the different groups being played ,except that they did not play Patriotic songs….Why can’t they do Patriotic songs?..Do they play Patriotic songs at a rock concert?
No,...so the music should fit the place/time…
If anyone doesn’t like Wikipedia, then don’t use it,...I like it…

Channel 4, we would like Patriotic songs next year….Thank you…

To be honest, I think some of the songs are pretty crappy. I hate the Jonas Brothers, and I have never been a fan of Lee Greenwood either. But if they play one song you like, then who cares. They are in the position of having to please everybody, which is never going to happen. My only beef is the people who start railing on them because they didn’t play “PURE” American music, and imply that those who don’t like Lee Greenwood must hate America. I love America, it doesn’t mean I have to blindly love every song written in praise of it.

Plain and simple, I didn’t care for this years soundtrack.  Pretty much everyone I have spoken with except for one person agreed.  Better luck next year.

Wow. I am amazed that every year people find more stupid things to complain about when it comes to song selection. Red, White and Boom has always played songs that are part of the great American Tapestry of Culture, which includes many bands and artists from other countries. Band like AC/DC are part of American culture, even though they hail from “Down Under”. It was their breakthrough in America that made them one of the biggest rock bands on the planet. We are a country of many cultures living together. I don’t need wikipedia or anything else to back me on this. This is taught in history classes that some of you should have paid attention to in school. Rock music is American, no matter who plays it. It is our art form, born from 3 other American art forms: Blues, Jazz and Country. Americans are a varied people with varied influences on our culture. If it is enjoyed in America, it IS American.

Normally I’d say that Wikipedia is ‘good enough’ for an informal discussion such as this, but we are the guests of NBC4, where accuracy matters, and we should respect that.

Why does patriotism have to be about guns and bombs?  Why can’t it be about arts and letters?  Our freedom from British rule is due more to the efforts of statesmen than Minutemen.  It took considerable effort to unite the disparate colonies with a single purpose, and maintain that unity throughout the war.  Without the diplomacy that drew in the French, there would have been no Yorktown.

So patriotic music, sure, but let’s open up the definition of ‘patriotic’.  It’s not going to include AC/DC no matter you stretch it though.

Jello…...Yahoo and Google had pretty much the same answers…If you want to add any other searches go ahead…

What we were talking about though was the music, and like everyone else I got pulled into a debate about why we celebrate with fireworks….Who cares, that is how it is, so we should use Patriotic music…

wikipedia info can be edited by anyone with internet access… defiitely not the most reliable source you could have used.

i’d like to know who picks the soundtrack? i have to admit i giggled when i heard the Beatles and Jonas Brothers, just because it was so ridiculous. i guess “patriotic” isn’t the theme anymore.

Landru….I did not say only American music, I said Patriotic….

Also I think Wikipedia is a reliable source,..(Isn’t it?)..I have never come across anything wrong yet with them…...Please correct my post if it is wrong…
