While I am greatly saddened for the family of the victim. I truly feel for the boys driving the car. I travel this road daily and have experienced near misses at this intersection. There is a very large utility pole that sits at the corner of this intersection and can easily obscure the view of an entire car, let alone a motorcycle. I stop at least twice to make that turn, and know of at least two other accidents that have occurred there in the last couple of years. I agree with the “look twice” rule of thumb, but sometimes accidents are just that…accidents.

I’m sick of the “I didn’t see him” lame excuse.  You’re not LOOKING well enough, that’s all.  *In a big hurry to get home, you’re the most important person on the road, get out of the way, you’re in a big hurry, you’ve got enough room, you’re in a big hurry, he can stop in time, screw him, he has brakes, you’re in a big hurry.*

Kill a biker, go to JAIL.

I have been riding motorcycles for a very long time and was involved in a similar accident where the car driver made a left turn in front of me. She said she didn’t see me…maybe not. Car drivers are looking more for the horizontal form of a car and not so much the vertical shape of a motorcycle and driver. That still does not relieve the car driver of his legal responsibilities to operate a motor vehicle. If the car driver is not prosecuted by the state, then there is always the civil demand for damages route…or both. When I am out with my motorcycle on the road, I try to make myself a obvious as I can…3 headlights in front of me and a loud exhaust along with personal protection..just in case.

While the second comment on this article is very diplomatic and eloquently stated, the first comment by Fap Fap could be considered mildly offensive.  I understand that accidents of this nature are extremely sad and unexpected, but while my heartfelt prayers go out to the family and friends of the biker. It is extremely inappropriate for someone to assume that after reading a condensed version of the story that you have enough knowledge of the situation and the people involved to call someone a murderous scumbag.  I understand that you are upset, but in the same respect I could not even begin to imagine what the driver of the car must have running through their head.  This is something that they will have to live with everyday of the rest of their life, and they do not need anyone’s help to feel awful about what happened.  It is understandable that bikers all over are upset when accidents of this nature happen.  However, to post a comment like that shows how blatantly unaware you are of the situational aspects of the accident, and that the basis of the comment is pure ignorance.  No one meant for the accident to happen, it was not as if the driver was out gallivanting around the countryside or multi-tasking behind the wheel. Unfortunately in life sometimes these events happen, and while I do believe that the driver should be punished, I fervently oppose the slanderous accusations of calling the driver a murderer.  This is not to be said that I am discriminating against or disrespecting motorcyclists, for I am no stranger to a Harley, but everyone makes mistakes on the road, big or little, we learn from them and continue on with a better understanding of how we all share the roadways.

Sir, I understand your frustration as you sound like a fellow rider.  But I feel I must reply to your comment.  The people riding the motorcycle are my Uncle and Aunt, and we are very sorrowed by the chain of events.  But labeling the boys in the car as scumbags disturbs me.  As hard as it is for me to say that, it is only because I know the boys and call their father friend.  This is a good Christian based family the same as ours.  I speak for my whole family, that our prayers go out to their family, as they now have to cope with everything as well as now knowing who they have taken away from us.  So, thank you on your comment we all have to be aware of others on the road.  We have all made mistakes on the road, including myself.  It was all an unfortunate accident.

Manslaughter charges will not do in this case. A message must be sent out to motorists that they must keep on eye out for 2 wheels as well as four. Murder charges must be filed or you might as well let the scumbag go free.
