Girl Struck By Stray Bullet At Red, White & Boom!
COLUMBUS, Ohio—A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being shot by a stray bullet at Red, White & Boom!
Jasmine Coleman Sammur was struck in the chest by a bullet last Friday. Investigators said the gun was fired into the air in celebration.
“The doctor came back with the photo and said, ‘You need to go to church on Sunday because you are one lucky girl,‘“ said Tracey Coleman Sammur, the victim’s mom.
“I didn’t even get to see the fireworks. I didn’t get my funnel cake,“ Jasmine said.
Police said the gunshot could have been fired from more than a mile away.
The bullet is still inside Jasmine. She has an appointment on Wednesday to have it examined.

We all hate!
It’s funny, some people hate other people because of race, religion, sex, economic class…personally I have no problem with any of that but I do have a hatred for stupidity and thoughtlessness for reasons just like this story
Gun bans don’t work.
U can make a firearm out of common items laying around the house.
I grew up in a house that had a loaded gun in every drawer and was taught never to touch them unless someone was breaking into the house and trying to harm me.
When i was 8 years old my father put a 357 in my hands and said shoot it.
That knocked me halfway across the firing range and taught me a fearsome respect for firearms.
I knew from that point on never to treat a gun as a toy.
One other thing…if one of you idiots that was firing guns in the air over the weekend happens to be reading this, I hope you are questioning if the bullet that shot this innocent 16yr old girl and could have killed her came from your gun. I also hope this makes you realize what can happen from doing something so stupid!
Well, Jasmine I think I speak for alot of people in here when I say sorry this happened to you and I hope it doesn’t keep you from other events. I know this experience has been a terrible one but you shouldn’t let it spoil fun you could have in the future
Good idea in theory though most of the people causing these accidents are not getting their guns legally and therefor will most like get the bullets from the same source….Taxes NEVER solved anything.
“Maybe bullets could be taxed. Reputable (read: licensed & trained) owners could even get tax breaks so the bullets are reasonably priced. Just a thought ... any opinions?“
Dano - Guns do not kill people, people kill people.
Mike - You are dead on on everything said! You should consider speaking at groups on gun responsiblilty!!!
I think we should do what Chris Rock says, “Gun control? We need bullet control! I think every bullet should cost 5,000 dollars. Because if a bullet cost five thousand dollar, we wouldn’t have any innocent bystander.”
Maybe bullets could be taxed. Reputable (read: licensed & trained) owners could even get tax breaks so the bullets are reasonably priced. Just a thought ... any opinions?
Dano, I understand that but the accident you describe happened because two rules were violated: there are safe storage rules, and second “always assume all guns are loaded all the time”. For me gun ownership is for defense purposes only especially in the times we live in where crime is bad and getting worse, I hope I never have to use it. I don’t ever want to shoot anyone but my motto is “I would rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it”
Mike.. I’m not saying anything against you as a respectable/responsible gun owner… you do show good reasonable judgement ...it is your choice to conceal and carry.
But these kinds of “accidents” have occurred many many many times and for many years now.
I witnessed a freak accident at the age of 13 where a friend the same age was playing with a relative’s gun thinking it wasn’t loaded and pointed it to his head and playfully pulled the trigger…the gun was in a locked cabinet to begin with and the friend got it out before any of us other kids got there…but the relative (gun owner) did end up in prison for child endangerment. He was a legally licensed carrier. For that reason, and the main reason I think guns are unnecessary. If they are legal, they will end up in the wrong hands… just like they would if they were illegal. To me, it just doesn’t make any sense to own a gun… unless for hunting or for a person that is a victim of a past crime. yuo just never know who would use good judgement anymore and I do appreciate your sense of respect and safe handling.
