JOHNSTOWN, Ohio—A woman and her son were killed in a Licking County crash Tuesday morning.

NBC 4’s Lauren Diedrich reported from the scene Tuesday.

OSP Granville said the double-fatal accident happened on U.S. Route 62 or Johnstown-Utica Road. The crash was west of Duncan Plains Road and happened at 9:54 a.m.

OSP released these accident details: Van Huyen Thi Tran, 31, of Johnstown was driving a 2003 Mazda on U.S. Route 62 westbound when she lost control on the ice-covered roadway and slid left of center. Her vehicle was struck by an eastbound utility truck driven by Russell L. Ulery, 46, of Gambier. Tran’s son, Vince Van-Ta, 5, was a passenger in the Mazda.

Both Tran and her 5-year-old son were pronounced dead at the scene by the Licking County coroner’s office.

Ulery was treated and released from St. Ann’s Hospital.

A seat belt was in use by Tran; usage by Ulery and Tran’s son remained under investigation. Alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash. The crash remained under investigation.

Diedrich reported that ODOT had salted U.S. 62 earlier Tuesday morning.
