CPD IDs Pedestrian Involved In Fatal Accident

UPDATE: CPD releases more accident information after a man was fatally struck on the city’s East Side late Monday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—A man died after he was hit by an SUV on the city’s East Side.
CPD received a 911 call about a serious crash on Brice Road, near the Lakes of Brice Apartments, at about 10:04 p.m. Monday night.
Officers responded to the area and found the crash involved 22-year-old Jose Conteras of Columbus and 30-year-old Walter J. Mitchell of Columbus.
Conteras was driving a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer northbound on Brice Road, CPD said.
CPD said it was believed Mitchell was walking northbound on Brice Road.
Conteras struck Mitchell with the front of his vehicle, CPD said in a police report.
Both Conteras and an independent witness said Mitchell was walking in the center of the northbound lane at the time of the accident.
Mitchell was transported to Grant Medical Center in critical condition and later was pronounced dead.
CPD said the roadway did not have lights and Mitchell was dressed in black clothing.
The crash remained under investigation.

Kei, I REALLY hope you do not even think twice about what that person is typing. If so, please keep in mind that the unfortunate part of open forums is anyone can give their opinion no matter how rude or out of line it is. His anger is strangly displaced and I am perceving his recent posts as abusive. He seems to be throwing rocks at those who are defending the victim and his family. It is wrong and I do hope he is no longer able to post future rants.
I listen to a scanner because i like to know what is going on in the city because not everything is reported by the news. And Because I can. I was a M P in the army A lot of reasons. You both need to grow up as in my first post I said what I said because it was the place to say it. Now if you think I was talking about the man who died I was not you really need to learn to read and understand what you are reading. You lost somebody and you want somebody to lash out at and you made it me. So GROW UP
WOW. Someone who types “you know where to shove it” on a news station forum having the nerve to tell others to “grow up”. It seems your anger is misdirected at a man you did not even know, a man with children and a mourning family, all because you are mad one time you had to wait for some person to get out of the road. Its unfortunate that you chose this as your forum for an outburst. Kei, I am very sorry for your loss and please know some people are idiots (who rant on news forums about their rights to be jerks just becauase)... but I am sure many feel quite bad for what your brother had to go through and what your family will deal with.

You both think that no one can speak there minds. That is what this is about. I spoke my mind if you do not like what I say I do not care. I am tiered of tring to drive down some of the side streets in columbus and not able to because a dumb A$$ is walking in the middle of the road and there is a sidewalk for them to walk on. I guess I should have said it on the story about the Zoo Uses Yogurt, Coke To Lure Gorilla Back To Habitat. NOT Grow up both of you if you do not like that somebody speaks his mind well you know wear you can shove it.
Oscar, or should I say Mr. Scanner? Let me ask a ? what did the 911 call say? We got new information about the accident yesterday. I seen the site where it happened. The road is a country type road where 2 cars can drive on the road going different directions. So the CPD said my brother was walking in the middle of the road ( there is no sidewalks) Guess what? the guy who hit my brother was DRIVING in the middle of the road? He hit my brother in the BACK. That tells me and my family that this guy seen him and decided to keep driving after he hit him. My mother always said you can’t spell assumption without the word A$$. Just take note of that. It is true, you did not specify that this man was the one you were talking about when you mentioned people should not walk in the middle of street. I do feel you were inappropriate in posting even a generalized message of the sort under an article describing a man killed by a car. I do not sit and listen to police scanners, but I know the article does not explain why he was walking where they say he was. An educated guess would be that he was crossing the road. And I too live off of Brice, and there are no sidewalks. So that would not have been an option. My whole point was this lead to someones death and Kei is right, you should attempt to have some compassion.
Just to let kel2345 & loriismyname know read what I said I did not say that this man was in the middle of the street. I am saying that people do walk in the middle of the street where they have no right to be walking when there is a sidewalk. But the info the police said on the scanner was that he was walking in the street. since you bring it up.
