Police found and charged the woman who allegedly left her infant daughter on the porch of an abandoned home in June.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Police found and charged the woman who allegedly left her infant daughter on the porch of an abandoned home in June.
A mail carrier found the newborn girl on the porch of a vacant house on Marble Drive, near Livingston Avenue at about 10 a.m. June 27.
Police said that on July 5, they received information that 24-year-old Nayeli Garcia was the mother of the infant.
Police went to Garcia’s workplace, interviewed her and said she allegedly admitted to leaving the newborn on the porch.
She was taken to Grant Medical Center for treatment and charged with one count of child endangering.
The infant has since been placed with a foster family.

I didn’t see where the woman was an “illegal alien”, but if she is, then she is also an identity thief. With so many Americans trying to fix the damage to their credit because of identity theft, why is everyone ignoring the fact that in order for an illegal alien to have a social security number, they must be using someone else’s identity?

I’m with unrepentent on this one. It is NOT our obligation to take care of the world. Whenever another country needs something (food, health care, disaster relief) who do they always come to, us. If you take a look around our economy right now we could use some of that help for our own citizens. I agree that we are a very rich country and should help others, but we should not overlook what is in our own backyard. This girl was here illegally, end of story. She should be charged, her employer should be fined, and she should be deported immediately. Now thanks to her we now have another mouth to feed and yet another child that needs a home. Who’s going to foot the bill for that, us! Who is going to foot the bill for her attorney, us! Who is going to foot the bill to get her back to where she came from, us! Who is going to pick up any outstanding debt that she will be leaving behind, us! We can’t help everyone! The bleeding hearts of this country are forgetting about the homeless, jobless, starving people here in our own country!

JAG: Under that theory, every alien in need of help could enter the USA illegally, ask for and receive help + food, clothing, shelter, etc., while receiving the help.
We have finite space, a finite GNP, finite personnel and logistic resources to feed, cloth, shelter, educate, etc. There simply is not room nor are there resources in the USA to care for the rest of the World.
I do not feel that we err to insist that the Rule of Law apply to this woman. The statutes declare that she is illegal.
Al Capone fed many through the Great Depression. He furnished jobs to many. He actually was an astute businessman, albeit a tad harsh at time, yet he operated outside the Rule of Law. That’s a bad.

Only someone who doesn’t appreciate the freedoms and rights they have would wish that somebody else didn’t have them. I don’t care what the rest of the world thinks… Just me and God. I will continue to use my political education to be a LIBERAL activist…and get paid good money for it, too, by the way : )
I will continue to promote universal human rights, tolerance, and justice. Which, for the record, doesn’t mean letting a woman who abandoned her baby off without being held responsible (but does involve giving her help so she hopefully becomes a better person, for her own sake and the sake of others). I am so sorry for you that you actually spend time spewing hate on the internet. That is very sad for you, and I will pray for you that God will touch you and heal your heart. And, of course, I’ll keep on voting to help prevent ultra-conservative (conservative with love, generous with hate) people like you from getting into political office and having any kind of REAL impact beyond what they have that has damaged our beautiful, proud country already.

Actually, most of the rights we enjoy here in the U.S., most of the world has agreed are HUMAN rights… This woman deserves to be read her miranda rights, have an attorney, all of those things, because she is a person, and people’s civil rights should be protected. Sorry, but you’ll never convince ME otherwise! I’ll never agree that just because someone is here “illegally”, that they don’t deserve to be treated FAIRLY by the criminal justice system, or the government of ANY country.
That said, she should receive JUSTICE… a trial, a sentence, and then, of course, deportation.
But I am trying to talk to someone who doesn’t know the difference between “are” and “our”, apparently, so I’m thinking maybe you’ve just lived in an ignorant little microcosm somewhere and base way too much of your self-esteem, etc. on being on this side of Us versus Them… Have fun with your bitter, divisive life, I guess!

These rights are for American citizens not enemy combatants,fence jumpers or visitors who allow their visas to expire and decide to stay anyway.
This is why are economy is screwed up.
We have no obligation to take care of the world.
I am not willing to give up my country without a shot being fired.
Noone houses me ,pays for my education or feeds me. why should we be expected to give benifits to others we do not get ourselves?
I can’t believe how people make value judgments based on whether they are legal citizens or not. It doesn’t really have anything to do with her crime that she is in the U.S. “illegally”. Believe me, if the Native Americans could have labeled Western Europeans as “illegals” and kept them out, they would have… and all of that crap about Constitutional rights only applying to U.S. citizens - that’s plain evil, if you ask me. Who would wish anyone to have fewer rights than they enjoy themselves, just because of political geography? If anyone needs to go to make America better, it’s people like that.
As far as what this woman did - Totally wrong. We don’t know that she knew no one lived there, but even if she thought someone did, there’s no excuse. You don’t leave an infant on a porch and leave it, obviously. An animal could have gotten it, etc… And even if she thought someone DID live there, how would she know they weren’t on vacation or something? It’s abandonment and child endangerment, and she should be held as responsible as anyone else. If they can get her help in the process, how can that be a bad idea? After all, she’s going to be let loose on society, SOMEWHERE (and again, to those who say, “who cares, as long as it’s not here”, I say that’s narcissistic and nationalist, really (NOT PATRIOTIC!), and not exactly admirable, and most definitely not Christian). It’s definitely better if before she is let loose, she can become more mentally healthy and socially responsible so she doesn’t continue to wreak havoc throughout her life.
