Woman Accused Of Beating Fawn To Death

» 115 Comments | Post a Comment

EUCLID, Ohio—Resident Dorothy Richardson, 76, said she was defending herself when she beat to death a 25-pound fawn that was crouched in her flower bed, then stuffed the fawn’s body in a cardboard box and put it out on trash day.

A widow, she said she has been defending her garden against deer for years and this time took a shovel and beat the fawn until it died.

She said the fawn’s eyes contacted hers, like he was going to jump and bite her head off.

Euclid City Councilman Christopher Gruber says Richardson told him something different.

Gruber says Richardson said she hit it once and, according to her, it screamed and she hit it two more times, then she said that what she wanted to do was put it at the end of the yard so the other deer know not to mess with her.

Gruber is now a witness in the animal abuse case against Richardson. If convicted, she faces up to 60 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

This is a clear case of extreme animal abuse. If she didn’t like living near wildlife then she should have moved elsewhere. The fawn was most likely waiting for it’s mom to return and was probably there because of shade. It would have been super easy to scare it away…  but no, this lady (can hardly call her that as that was not the behavior of a lady) chose to kill a living creature that could not defend itself. Just think, if we all went around killing like that, then we could very well be on the path to killing humans.  It is sick and was NOT necessary. She needs to be punished.

I cannot believe that people out there actually find it acceptable to treat animals this way.  They are a part of nature and have no choice other than to be a part of our world.  Humans need to RESPECT the relationship between ourselves and nature.  I’m not saying let the deer eat all your flowers, but at least be humane and take care of the problem in an appropriate manner!

to JBDB76, it is absurd that you condemn harming “those gentle, poor” creatures in one sentence, then condone harming a human being in the next.  You are obviously a very mixed up person.  Good luck to you and your future…. not a lot of hope there.

This poor animal, what is this world becoming? If this “Lady” and I use that term lightly, had been chaseing deer from her garden for years, she should have put in some shrub, flowers etc that are deer proof. There are many varietys out there, and many are beautiful. This “lady” needs to be put in the same cell as the Dog Killer Fireman. However, I don’t want my tax dollars going towards keeping them . As far as I can see they both are sick and need to be treated the same way they treated these poor, gentle animals.

She should have just let the (poor dear) eat all summer and had her meat and potatoes together this fall.
A groundhog just ate the biggest tomatoe in my garden today and im going to bash his little fur bearing skull in with a baseball bat when i see him come out of that hole.

And bigdaddyoldman it was not a child it was a darn deer, a wild animal. There is no link between killing vermin and hurting a child.  A mouse, a rat, a rabbit or deer are vermin and have nothing to do with hurting a child.  Now some might consider PETA and animal righs terrorist vermin, but even those that do can still tell the difference between animals and people.  Animals are food and thats just how it is, get over it.
