IOWA CITY, Iowa —Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says he’s reinstated his son and two other redshirt freshmen who were suspended in April following an alcohol-related incident.

Offensive lineman James Ferentz, tight end Zach Derby and fullback Tyler Christensen were arrested and charged with public intoxication on April 6.

Christensen pleaded guilty later that day. Online court records say that Derby and Ferentz pleaded guilty May 1.

Ferentz was the only player of the three listed on the spring depth chart. Ferentz, a highly touted recruit in high school, was the second-string center at the start of spring ball.

Iowa finished 9-4 last season and is expected to contend for the Big Ten title. The Hawkeyes open on Sept. 5 against Northern Iowa.
