Rodriguez Says He Still Loves West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —Former West Virginia University football coach Rich Rodriguez says he hopes the bad feelings and ill will over his departure are a thing of the past.
Rodriguez left WVU in December 2007 to take the head coaching job at Michigan. The move came shortly after the Mountaineers lost to Pittsburgh and missed a chance to play for a national championship.
The Grant Town native says in retrospect he could have done things differently because the issue got overblown and personal.
But he says people would have still been upset because of his decision to leave West Virginia after seven years.
Rodriguez says he follows WVU and still considers West Virginia his home. He plans to visit the state this summer.
