COLUMBUS, Ohio—High-school-hoops fans filled the brand-new gym at East High School (or East On Arcadia) Wednesday night for the first game of the new year.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
East High went up against Northland.
CPD made sure trouble stayed out of the new building at 100 E. Arcadia Ave. with increased patrols.
Forty uniformed and plain-clothed officers were in the crowd. Detectives said there have been some gang-related problems, and fans noticed the heightened security.
“I feel safe. It bothers me a little bit because I’m not used to being at high-school games with police. I’m glad they’re here,“ East High fan Linda Justice said.
CPD said it doesn’t anticipate having any problems at future basketball games but will continue to monitor the crowds throughout the rest of the season.
Northland beat East 73-49.
