COLUMBUS, Ohio—There are plenty of things going on throughout the city this week.

Here are CityScene Magazine’s top five picks:

1. Having a ball.
The Short North Arts District’s second annual Highball Halloween event is from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 31. High Street will be open to the nearly 20,000 expected revelers dressed in their most creative apparel. The event includes a pet procession, a DJ, a fashion show and a costume contest. 2. A thrilling performance.
The Columbus Symphony Pops Series’ Halloween Pops is at 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Veterans Memorial, 300 W. Broad St. The concert features performances by Lisa Vroman and Doug LaBrecque with excerpts from The Phantom of the Opera. Attendees are encouraged to dress in costume. 3. On the mARTket.
Get your shopping started. The Clintonville Arts Guild Holiday Show and Sale is Nov. 5-7 at the Whetstone Community Center, 3923 N. High St. Guild members will be selling work in various media, including wood, fabric, photography, painting and more. Call 614-262-9010.

Also, at 7 p.m. Nov. 5, the Columbus Museum of Art at 480 E. Broad St. hosts Glass Art in Columbus. Local artists who specialize in glass will speak. Visit http://www.columbusmuseum.org.

4. Vote, tour and honor.
November 3 is Election Day. Get to your polling place and vote. Also, from Nov. 2-6, enjoy an Election Week Presidential Tour of the Ohio Statehouse, on the corner of State and High Streets. During these tours, participants will learn about each of Ohio’s eight presidents.

Also, check out the Veterans Day Parade at noon Nov. 6, kicking off at the Statehouse. Cannons will fire in honor of Ohio’s veterans. Visit http://www.ohiostatehouse.org.

5. Sneak preview.
It’s almost time for the Columbus tradition of BalletMet’s production of The Nutcracker. In the meantime, celebrate with The Nutcracker on State, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Ohio Theatre, 39 E. State St. The sights and sounds of the classic story will fill Capitol Square as tickets go on sale. Participants will get a glimpse of the theatre and meet with characters from the show. The Nutcracker Boulevard street sign will be unveiled, officially kicking off the holiday season. Food donations will be accepted for the Feed the Nutcracker, Feed Columbus food drive. Bonus:
A happy pursuit.
The Available Light Theatre kicks off its production of (How to) Stay Human Nov. 5. The show, which is about the pursuit of happiness in America, runs through Nov. 14 at the Van Fleet Theatre, 549 Franklin Ave. Visit http://www.howtostayhuman.com.
