COLUMBUS, Ohio—School’s out for most, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop learning.
NBC 4’s Mikaela Hunt reported with the FAST FACTS about the Summer Reading Club.
Experts say that reading is critical during the summer and that it greatly influences a child’s life.
The Columbus Metropolitan Library and NBC 4 are helping kids read.
Young children and parents begin a lifelong love of reading at the free Baby Laptime programs.
A little music helps get the youngsters get warmed up for a good read.
Melissa Fischer is a librarian at the Downtown branch. She sees what reading means to babies and toddlers.
“I watch the effects of what I do happen within even just three weeks. Once I see them come in, I just see them blossom,” Fischer said.
It’s the same spirit that’s behind the Summer Reading Club.
“Each of our branches has a full summer calendar from the Turtle Lady to magicians and a host of summer programs,” the library’s Kathy Shahboddaghi said.
The program encourages children to read for at least 15 minutes each day, connecting them to active programs, special coupons and raffles.
This year, the branches are partnering with NBC 4 to bring you great summer-reading options.
NBC 4 and the Columbus Metropolitan Library are suggesting good books that will engage children and families over the course of the summer—good summer reads.
The goal? Grow readers of all ages.
The library kicks off its Summer Reading Club from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its Downtown main branch at 96 S. Grant Ave.
Register for the club while the children enjoy fun activities.
