The small Central Ohio town of Marengo has had some big crime problems due to decreased police protection.
Just before midnight Sunday, a man wearing a bandanna walked in the exit of the Marengo Oasis Drive-Thru, pointing a gun at the clerk and demanding she empty the register.

NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock got the BOTTOM LINE on the frightening crime trend that hit a small Morrow County town.
Over the past few weeks, residents in the town of Marengo have had a one-in-100 chance of being robbed at gunpoint, Bowersock reported.
Just before midnight Sunday, a man wearing a bandanna walked in the exit of the Oasis Drive-Thru & Video, pointing a gun at the clerk and demanding she empty the register.
The man was believed to be the same person who robbed a Pizza-To-Go at gunpoint eight days earlier and Castle’s Gas & Deli prior to that.
“I see it ending in someone getting hurt, whether it be a business owner, an employee, a customer or the person breaking in,“ said Burgess Castle, the owner of Castle’s Gas & Deli.
The sheriff’s office currently staffs half the number of deputies it had two years ago and one-third the number the town had a few years before that, Bowersock reported.
The sheriff said the investigation into the recent robberies has been hindered because the department does not have anyone to examine the cases full-time.

I am not thrilled that they blatantly reported how small the law enforcement team is. I have a lot of family that live in and around Marengo and the very thought of something happening to them upsets me tremendously. What if they stop robbing businesses and start robbing homes?
I think it is time for some ‘neighborhood watch’ groups to form up and make their presence known. That might help deter this kind of behavior.
As my grandfather used to say, “there comes a time to take the bull by the tail, and face the situation”.
The answer to this situation is obvious: take responsibility for your own safety and protection. The courts have ruled the police have no lawful duty or obligation for your protection.
Therefore, it’s up to you, John or Jane Q. Public. Take self defense training. Be aware of your surroundings, BUY A HIGH QUALITY HANDGUN, SHOTGUN, AND/OR RIFLE of suitable style and caliber for tactical defensive use, get training, get courageous, and confront these punks and thugs. And NEVER GIVE UP. It is your life that is in the balance.
Namby pamby, give ‘em what they want, don’t resist strategies(?) are a losing bet - just look at the stats. You stand a much better chance fighting than surrendering.

If it wasn’t bad enough that we have someone who is tormenting the people and businesses of our very nice little village. It appears that our lack of police force is being broadcasted across the news stations as if it were an invitation to any crook who feels likes ripping off business and residents of this county. Marengo has always been a nice, quiet city full of people where you know your neighbors by first name and all their family. It’s a shame that there can’t be more honest, hardworking people in this world. I hope whoever is commiting these crimes and trying to put fear into the residents of Marengo can somehow come to their senses and stop!
Did the reporter talk with the police department? What measures are being taken to curb the increase in armed robberies? Are any other types of crimes (car theft, home invasions, battery) up as well, or only armed robbery?
