UPDATED: Authorities identify the woman whose dismembered body parts were found scattered around an apartment complex.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio—Authorities remained on the scene of a murder that even a seasoned homicide detective called “very disgusting.”
NBC 4’s Tom Brockman reported with the BOTTOM LINE.
A maintenance worker at West Bay apartments on Bay Run Drive found what looked to be a human body part shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, CPD homicide Sgt. Dana Norman said.
When police arrived at the Southwest Side scene, additional body parts were found in various locations around the complex and its pond.
CPD’s dive teams searched the complex pond Thursday morning while investigators searched the surrounding area, including dumpsters.
Investigators also were concentrating on one apartment that was rented by suspect 51-year-old Robert Knight.
CPD took Knight into custody Thursday morning and charged him with homicide shortly after 6:15 a.m.
“It’s very disturbing. Yes, it is. We see a lot of homicide scenes and lots of ways people have died. It’s very disgusting,” Norman said.
CPD sent a police dive team to an area of Hoover Reservoir near Smoke Burr Drive in Westerville, saying that there could have been additional evidence at the reservoir or in the area. As of 6 p.m., police said the area had been cleared.
CPD also searched an area at nearby Interstate 270 and Georgesville Road before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Columbus police identified the victim as 44-year-old Tracey Moore and said she was living with the suspect. Officials said that 98 percent of her body has been recovered.
Detectives said they believe Moore was killed about four days ago inside the apartment.
CPD told NBC 4 officers will be guarding the scene at the complex during the next couple of days.
The crime scene is extensive and massive; detectives want to make sure unfound evidence is not disturbed.
CPD did not release a possible motive for the homicide or its reasons for the suspect arrest.

Drug use is a choice, remember that. You don’t blame the car for the accident-you don’t blame the gun for the shooting-you cannot blame the drug for the choices that those that abuse them make. Not everyone that drinks becomes an alcoholic and you can’t blame the alcohol if they do become abusers of it.It’s all about choices. Some “drugs” mainly pot are less damaging than alcohol.EVERYONE knows that cocaine and heroin kill-in a free country one can kill themselves any way they choose.Drugs are different now than when I was young, but even in the 60’s and 70’s and 80’s everyone knew to be afraid of certain drugs. No one could make me use them and there is no stigma to saying no thanks. You can still enjoy the party without participating in the “offerings”.The person who spoke of his friends ruined life should remember that the inanimate object(the drug)didn’t ruin his life-he did when he made the CHOICE to go from casual user to addict.Life is about choices and everyone these days is faced with alot of them ,including porn that leads to sex crimes(99% percent of sex offenders use porn),violence(as a way to deal with whatever, the list goes on and on.Does the man that hates(blames) drugs hate porn too?Because it leads to rape.
That is a good idea trogers.
I completely understand and agree that habitual offenders need harsher sentencing. I do feel as if you are a violent offender then yes something needs to be done to prevent you from harming someone.
I am also a promoter of death by means of how the convict commited his/her crime/murder.
I understand, it does ruin lives, that is why I had to raise my sibblings. But I dont feel they should be put to death. I try to be very open minded to understand that everyone is affected differently by life and you are on of very few that has made it through life and not touched a drug. It saddens me that they diagnose children now and days with mental conditions and prescribe drugs to them. This teaches them at a young age to rely on a chemical in order to cope.
I appreciate your understanding towards my story and I hope that you realize that I understand your point as well. :0)
I wish the people that run these rentals would do better checks on these people. They should also have special communties for all the sex offenders away from all the general public. They should never be aloud around children again.
Don’t get me wrong Maumi, I am happy for you that you turned your life around and got away from that stuff before it was too late, I commend you for that. Just for me, like I said I hate it because I have seen it ruin too many lives. I went to school with a guy that was really intelligent, could have had a bright future, now he is serving 5 years in prison for selling cocaine in a school zone and resisting arrest, when he gets out nobody will want to hire someone like him, he will have to take whatever job he can get when he could have at one time had any job he wanted
Well Maumi, I have a real problem with drugs and drug use. I have seen it ruin alot of lives, I saw people I went to school with and friends that totally threw their life away on that garbage. What a thing to give up you life for because all you think about is staying on that high or people I knew serving prison sentences for dealing and when they come out who will hire them? I’m not perfect but I never went anywhere near any kind of drugs not even weed, honestly I think if you can’t make it through life without that you are weak. I have a hatred for drug use and no respect for those that do it
Mike, I usually agree with you but not on that one. As much as I hate to admit this, as a young teen I sold drugs in order to provide food for my siblings and myself and that is how I made it through college. I have turned my life completely around and I have a wonderful job and I am assisting my sister with her college fees. I was never violent and I know that if caught I would’ve had to suffer the consequences, although I think death would be awfully harsh, especially considering that the users were using prior to and after my supplying it.
And honestly Maumi, reading this guy’s criminal record…he’s been in and out of jail for the majority of his life and hasn’t learned to quit breaking the law. Now an innocent woman is dead and her body cut to pieces. That idiot fireman that killed his dogs, mark my words he will do it again only next time it maybe a girlfriend or a child but I will tell you now you will see him on the stand again for more crimes.
I have no problems with second chances either as long as it wasn’t a violent crime. Where I have a problem is 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th chances. I consider rape to be a violent crime that can and will traumatize a victim for the rest of their lives. Habitual drug dealers are a menace as they are a threat to our children as well as how many crimes are committed that are linked to drug use in one way or another? Habitual sex offenders are a threat to all of society and if it is habitual then that means they have been CONVICTED multiple times so they are not learning anything. I understand things happen and you might find yourself in a situation before you know it so second chances are ok but when you are habitual…
You know I have no problem with giving someone a second chance, that is if they haven’t done something violent. I feel that if you are capable of being violent, you should be locked in a cage like an animal would be.
Behave as you want to be treated.
Do unto others what you expect done unto yourself.
Give him the death penalty.
We need to pass a law that if you kill you are to be punished by the death you inflicted upon your victim.
