UPDATED: Authorities identify the woman whose dismembered body parts were found scattered around an apartment complex.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio—Authorities remained on the scene of a murder that even a seasoned homicide detective called “very disgusting.”
NBC 4’s Tom Brockman reported with the BOTTOM LINE.
A maintenance worker at West Bay apartments on Bay Run Drive found what looked to be a human body part shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, CPD homicide Sgt. Dana Norman said.
When police arrived at the Southwest Side scene, additional body parts were found in various locations around the complex and its pond.
CPD’s dive teams searched the complex pond Thursday morning while investigators searched the surrounding area, including dumpsters.
Investigators also were concentrating on one apartment that was rented by suspect 51-year-old Robert Knight.
CPD took Knight into custody Thursday morning and charged him with homicide shortly after 6:15 a.m.
“It’s very disturbing. Yes, it is. We see a lot of homicide scenes and lots of ways people have died. It’s very disgusting,” Norman said.
CPD sent a police dive team to an area of Hoover Reservoir near Smoke Burr Drive in Westerville, saying that there could have been additional evidence at the reservoir or in the area. As of 6 p.m., police said the area had been cleared.
CPD also searched an area at nearby Interstate 270 and Georgesville Road before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Columbus police identified the victim as 44-year-old Tracey Moore and said she was living with the suspect. Officials said that 98 percent of her body has been recovered.
Detectives said they believe Moore was killed about four days ago inside the apartment.
CPD told NBC 4 officers will be guarding the scene at the complex during the next couple of days.
The crime scene is extensive and massive; detectives want to make sure unfound evidence is not disturbed.
CPD did not release a possible motive for the homicide or its reasons for the suspect arrest.

I’ve said it before…They need to start executing prisoners for other crimes besides just murder. The death penalty should be used for rapists, drug dealers, and habitual sex offenders. Honestly I would start executing habitual felons, obviously after someone that has been to jail 3 or 4 times and is still committing felony crimes hasn’t learned anything and will continue to be a threat.
My big concern is we are paying for felons and sex offenders to live in these low income apartments near our homes and our children!!!
pdfish, it amazes me that u are obiously a cop, yet fail to see why nala66 feels that way she does but you want her to feel your side.
I have experinced the good and bad side. And to clear things up the only record I have is two speeding tickets I recieved over ten years ago.
I encourage my daughter to respect officers and i often approach and communicate with officers if they are in the nieghborhood because I don’t want her to grow up with the typical stereotype that has been created throughout the nieghborhood, because she too has witnessed corruptness. I feel that if I can open my mind to try to turn negative experiences into positive hope, then so should an officer of law.
you’re right living, it just angers me when ignorant people are disrespectful towards these officers. The size of the police force would not have prevented this. If our court systems were more competent that would have prevented this because this idiot would have still been in jail from the last 600 crimes he committed. Hopefully now he’ll be put to death and won’t be around to hurt anyone else
I want to make it clear…I am grateful for those who make the decision to become an officer of the law to protect me and my family. What doesn’t make sense to me are the people using this situation to support the need for the tax increase so that officer’s won’t need to be laid off. I can’t see where having additional officers could have prevented this tragedy.
I agree with you baze. What will probably happen is he will get the same judge the firefighter got. Since he killed a human instead of dogs then cut her body up and stashed the parts all over the place the judge will be alot tougher on him. He’ll be sentenced to 6 months in jail to be served in 10 day stretches, he’ll be fined, community service, and a letter of apology. Isn’t that how Ohio justice works?
There needs to be an accident while taking him to court this morning (like he falls down several flights of stairs) and his injuries prooved to be fatal to him. This piece of crap is not deserving of continued breathing. Maybe we should use waterboarding techniques on him in the same pond he stashed his girlfriend and let him take on too much water so he stops breathing and he drowns in his own blood.
All of you who say there will not be a crime increase if police officers are laid off…are you high? Crime is already bad and getting worse, what do you think will happen when these waste of a human life criminals know there are fewer officers, fewer patrols, and because of shortages in manpower longer response times? Drugs are rampant, how many armed robberies are there every night, murderers like this genius, those 3 idiots that did a drive by at the Taco Bell. This idea to lay off police officers is just nonsense, personally I’d rather fire the mayor and the city council and leave the police department intact.
This guy makes me sick, why when these sickos get prison sentences do they usually end up not serving the full sentence? This case should see an execution, sorry but there is no way you are going to say this moron is not a threat to society
I can’t believe this, crime in this city is bad and getting worse and our idiot mayor is going to cut our police forces? Also, I’m sick of people always bashing the police mainly for doing their job, you people have no idea how bad things would and probably will be with no or reduced police presence. Most of the police bashers are people that have been arrested and blame the police because they broke the law. To the poster that said marijuana doesn’t kill people, first you’re wrong people kill eachother over it and the money from it every day. Second, the drug itself might not kill but the thing people like you need to get through your head is IT IS ILLEGAL!!! When you use it or are in possession of it you are breaking the law, don’t blame the police for arresting you, blame yourself for breaking the law.
