CENTRAL OHIO —Congregations around Central Ohio continue to keep an eye out for the man dubbed “the church thief.“

Officials in pockets of Licking and Fairfield counties believe the man has bounced from town to town, walking into churches during events or services and stealing purses or handbags.

Authorities say the man has used stolen credit cards at stores in the state.

Both Pickerington and Granville churches have been victims of the crimes.

In Granville, even with active security measures in place at the Springs Hills Baptist Church, the suspect walked in and walked out without detection.

“Who would target churches? Who would do that? It’s devastating,“ said Heidi Carroll, of Pickerington.

Last year, NBC 4 reported on a rash of church break-ins in Newark.  Police closed in and arrested a suspect in that case.

Now authorities are looking for a white male in his 20’s or 30’s, who is 5 feet 10 inches tall with tattoos on his arms and legs.

Anyone with information is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.

it annoys me that they even broadcasted this. Its a church…its a place that people warship stories out of a book. Now you can believe in what ever you want but for them to make it a big deal because its a church is ludacris. Do you know how many homes are broken into a day…do they televise those????

I agree with Diese327, and take exception to geocam. Geo, think about this for a second…. what is the church full of ? Sinful people who by the GRACE of God would be on the streets doing the same thing this man is doing. To have such arrogance to think that this person is not part of the church saddens me. We get so high and mighty and forget who we really are once we’ve been “saved” for so long. And we delude ourselves into thinking this person can’t be a “Christian” because REAL Christians act like me!!!  Instead of name calling (saying he’s a drug addict) spend two times as much time praying that God will be merciful to him. Remember if you sew mercy you will receive mercy, if you sew pain then pain you will receive.

To answer diesel327, it is more shocking when this occurs in a church because a church is supposed to be a sanctuary from sin and sinful thoughts rather than a place to prey on your fellow man. This person is a drug addict of course - only they would stoop so low.

Why is it any different just be its a church? Its just a building so just because its a church it shouldnt be blown out of proportion and what not. Arrest the guy and go on with it.
