COLUMBUS, Ohio—CPD released the identification of a home-invasion suspect who was fatally shot late Wednesday.

NBC 4 reported with updated FAST FACTS Friday.

CPD was called to a home on the 1500 block of Autumn Village Drive on reports of a shooting at about 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers found a man, who was identified later as 19-year-old Steven Ford Jr., on the front porch with a gunshot wound to his neck.

CPD said Ford, who was armed, broke into the home shortly before he was fatally shot by a man who was staying at the home with relatives.

“There was a knock on the door. The resident went to the door, at which time the victim out front entered the house with a firearm in commission of an aggravated robbery,” said CPD homicide Sgt. Dana Norman.

As Ford entered the home, a man picked up his 5-year-old relative to protect child as well as a firearm and fired shots, according to authorities.

Ford attempted to flee the home after being wounded but collapsed on the porch. He died a short time later.

NBC 4 was told the man and Ford did not know each other.

There were four people in home at time of the alleged invasion: a woman, child and two men, one of whom is bedridden.

The identity of the shooter was not released currently.

No other injuries were reported from the incident.

No charges have been filed against the man who shot Ford currently, but the case will be presented to the Franklin County grand jury for review.

Anyone with additional information on the city’s 49th homicide of 2009 was asked to call the CPD homicide squad at 614-645-4730.

Great shot, keep mowing these dummies down….This is how all robbers should be treated, this will help the state with our budget shortfall… No trial no jail time with free meals… I would happily buy u some more rounds if u need them.

mike then we are very much the same on the same page. this guy said he answered the door grabbed the kid and gun. so they both had to be in the same area as each other and was easy to get to. that was my point. but picking up a kid and a gun isnt good. the bad guy would normaly try to shoot who has the gun and that puts the child in harms way. but anyhow im glad the invader got his and nothing happened to the kid. everyone need to protect thiers and if this was the outcome more often than not, these invasions would come to a stop. its the death penalty.

Same here…I have the firepower, I know how to use it, and I will use it in a heart beat.  Any of you little dope heads break into my place while I’m home, I’ll make your birth certificate a worthless document

Well, whatever the reason drug dealer or no, no one has a right to break into your home.  I agree with Maumi on that one.  I don’t condone drug users or dealers by any means, but I do agree with protecting your home.  And I do to the fullest extent I can.  I will not hesitate to shoot an intruder at all.  I was raised around guns, bows, what have you and I’ve learned over the years how to shoot them and I am not afraid to use them.

scooldude, I don’t have kids running around.  Plus I said nothing about the door, I said the night stand and an undisclosed location.  We have the death penalty but the reason it is not as effective is it is not used enough.  The death penalty is reserved for murderers and even then it is a toss up if they will get it.  Then if you get sentenced to death you still have a good 20 years to live because of all the idiotic appeals and legal loopholes

mike if you keep a loaded gun by the front door with a five year old running around your house i hope the child is different than all other kids. kids and loaded guns dont mix. we see it on the news way to much with deadly results. i have many guns loaded also but none in reach of the front door or where little kids can get to them.in your house and on a night stand is way diiferent from family room, dining room,or coffee tables where family and friends are.  regardless of how people make ends meet legal or not doesnt give anybody te right to rob you. we also have the death penalty in effect now and almost everday there is a killing so that thought of yours also was not thought through. its not working now why would you think it would start to work. the problem is the users not dealers, supply and demand. if the demand drops so will profit and it will go to other places not here in the U.S.

I have to disagree. Even if he is a drug dealer, that still doesn’t give anyone the right to run into his house, except for swat that is.  That is what they are here for, not ignorant thieves whose thought process goes no further than stealing from others because:
1.  they are not competent enough to hold a job, or even sell drugs for that matter.
2. they will never see anything wrong with taking from others whom have earned thier keep.

I do not condone dealing drugs, but I am realistic as to the life long drug war that will never end due to the corrupt government officals that profit from it while they send young individuals (whom were trained and handed the ability and knowledge) to prisons only to recruit someone to take thier place.

there was a time when being a career criminal meant you would be publicly executed and made an example of, our justice system today is way too soft and too easy on criminals…court appeals, prisons that are more like hotels.  If I ran a prison there would be no free food, they would work for every single meal of every day. They would earn their way just like law abiding citizens have to

I think our society would benefit from the death penalty for other crimes.  I think drug dealers, rapists, child sex offenders, and habitual offenders should be put to death along with murderers.  People would be less likely to commit crimes if they knew it could cost their lives, tax dollars would be saved, prison populations would drop, think about this…less crime, saved tax money could be put into other projects, it would eventually get rid of the drug problem.

Bodie, the shooter has not been identified, how do you know he was a druggie?  If you are correct then I support your comment.
