CPD Issues Crime Alert After Rash Of Thefts
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Columbus police issued a crime alert Friday after a rash of auto thefts on the city’s Southwest Side.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
There were 17 thefts from autos and six related reports of malicious destruction between Monday, Sept. 28, and Monday, Oct. 19, according to police.
The target area of the crimes is Sullivant Avenue to the north, Station Road to the east, Zachary Court to the south and Lancia Lane to the west.
Columbus police said suspects use the following modes of entry: pop the locks, pry a door handle and smash out windows.
In 12 of the incidents, the vehicles were in parking lots. Seven were parked on the street, and one was inside of a garage. The rest were not indicated in the reports.
The following properties were taken: amplifier/booster, CD players/stereos, checkbook, cigarettes, computer, digital camera, DVD player, GPS units, medication, monitor, personal documents, purse, satellite radio, speakers and a wallet.
Clear all valuables from the interior of your vehicles and take them with you.
Remove GPS holders from your windows and dashboards. The holders indicate you have a GPS and more than likely it or other valuables are in the vehicle.
