UPDATE: The head and arms of a woman were found in a local man’s apartment freezer, CPD said.
CENTRAL OHIO—Authorities release new details after detectives said a local woman was murdered and her body was dismembered and strewn around an apartment complex.
NBC 4 reported with the BOTTOM LINE on where the case stands.
Robert Knight, 51, murdered 44-year-old Tracey Moore, CPD homicide detectives said.
He dismembered her body and scattered parts around a Southwest Side apartment complex, authorities said.
Moore was identified through fingerprints, according to CPD.
Detectives recovered about 98 percent of Moore’s body with the help of Ohio State University anthropologists.
“We can recover them with careful and systematic digging and mapping, which maximizes the evidence collection,” anthropologist Jules Angel said.
Detectives said Moore lived with Knight at the West Bay apartments on Bay Run Drive.
CPD said the head and arms of a woman were found in Knight’s apartment freezer.
Moore was dead for about four days before her body was dismembered, investigators said.
Investigators have ruled out a tip that more body parts could be in the Hoover Reservoir but said the remaining crime scene is the most complex detectives have dealt with in a long time.
CPD was continuing its investigation Friday and has not identified a motive for the homicide currently.
Knight was arraigned in a Franklin County common pleas courtroom Friday. A judge set his bond at $2 million.
He remained in the Franklin County jail.
Moore’s death was the city’s 39th homicide of 2009.
BACKSTORY
A maintenance worker at West Bay apartments on Bay Run Drive found what looked to be a human body part shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, CPD homicide Sgt. Dana Norman said.
When police arrived at the scene, additional body parts were found in various locations around the complex and its pond.
CPD’s dive teams searched the complex pond Thursday morning while investigators searched the surrounding area, including dumpsters and Knight’s apartment.
CPD took Knight into custody Thursday morning and charged him with homicide shortly after 6:15 a.m.
“It’s very disturbing. Yes, it is. We see a lot of homicide scenes and lots of ways people have died. It’s very disgusting,” Norman said.
CPD sent a police dive team to an area of Hoover Reservoir near Smoke Burr Drive in Westerville, saying that there could have been additional evidence at the reservoir or in the area. Police said the area had been cleared by 6 p.m.
CPD also searched an area at nearby Interstate 270 and Georgesville Road before 8 a.m. Thursday.

Alot of these “types” of offenders are completely arrested in their development(like Michael Jackson).They miss out on their natural development,for whatever reason and CHOOSE to stay stuck forever.
I agree Laura. Most of these individuals are so insecure and imature that they are comfortable in having relationships with children.
I feel that once a being is 21 they are offically an adult. (can purchase alcohol)
What are they capable of doing with a child other than corrupting thier young influential minds?
You’ll never catch me making any excuses for women offenders! My point that I made in an earlier blog was that there were 11 registered sex offenders that were women,out of 1581 on the sex offender list in Franklin County.Most of the women are accused of underage sexual conduct-not forceable rape or rapes of a child.
It may appear on the surface that these teenage boys are less impacted,but who is there to see their inability to form good relationships when they try to be someones husband or father?There is definate long term damage to their self esteem and boundary setting.
There are so many ways for people to find “relief” for their urges that it angers me to the core that they choose a usually vulnerable innocent child to defile.
NO DEFENSE or EXCUSES for any of them.And if you were abused as a child,how hippocritical could you be to do the same to another?
I agree. My daughters sister is closer in age to her almost stepfather than the mother is. I can only imagine what the reaction would have been if he had been with her rather than her mother. It is a double standard in so may ways. I do not condone any of this type of behavior whether it would be my son or daughter.
Let me give an example of my thoughts…now just so everyone isn’t correcting every detail, I don’t remember them all…but the jist of it was that some young girl (16?) was working at a McDonalds or some other fast food joint and was called to the manager’s office where he was on the phone supposedly with the police and the girl was told by the voice on the phoone to disrobe in the office, so she did…then she was told to perform an oral act on the manager…which she did… Everyone who read about that was disgusted and felt terrible for this poor little girl - as did I! BUT…had that been a 16 year old BOY who did the same thing with his (male) manager, not only would I have wanted to slap the snot outta the manager, but the “kid” would have gotten a workout as well!! Double standard? Of course! So what?? If it was a 16 year old boy and the manager was a female (Especially a female closer to the age of the kid) all his buddies would have given him a slap on the back with the accompanying “attaboy”. Don’t make it right…just makes it the way life is!
I agree anonymous. My daughters sisters mother has two children (one is almost 4 and the other is 2) with a young man that just turned 18 about six months ago. This means that this woman (understatement) was physical with him when he was 14. I think that behavior like that is absolutely disgusting and I will never understand how anyone (man or woman) can be physically or mentally attracted to an underdeveloped being. I also know an aunt of mine that had problems keeping her hands off young children. :0(
Laura…and some others…I disagree that there are so few female sex offenders. I believe that there are certainly much fewer than men, but not by all that much…it’s just that “boys” who are in sexual relationships with older women are not as likely to a) be as traumatized by the experience; b) make a complaint to family/whomever; c) get caught.
I am truly the epitome of pedophile haters…but I believe there to be a double standard and I’m not so certain that there shouldn’t be. A 19 year old man seducing a 16 year old girl is a tragedy…a 19 year old woman who seduces a 16 year old “boy” is for some reason less disgusting. Don’t ask me why, I truly don’t know
Sorry MightyPorthos,I looked through all 1581 registered sex offenders in Franklin County and about 12 were women-Even my estimation was off as it’s much less than 1% that are women.
this is totally off topic but i was wondering…when this case is closed and the apt and garage are released, what plans does the management company have for this property? fresh coat of paint and back on the market??? I’m pretty sure they’re not obligated to inform new renters of the history. I know I wouldn’t want to live there.I know they can’t turn every homicide scene into a model but this one will have groupies.
I believe the percentage of woman sex offenders is between 10 and 20 percent of all sex offenders depending on locale. I do not think this was sexually motivated. DOn’t get it twisted the guy is nuts. He deserves to be slow roasted like a pig on a spit. Society is getting worse bt the day and it is going to continue. The best thing any of us can do is prepare our kids and protect our families. What is disgusting is inmates have more rights than the people we pay to guard them. If we want to affect change each one of us has to change our own little corner of the world. If every third person had this mindset and will we would be in a much better place. Unfortunately there are too many meely mouth people who want to do nothing but complain. When I was growing up if you screwed up bad enough at school you got the paddle. BRING IT BACK! There is NO accountability for kids these days. Theyre the future. If we want change lets start there. Doctor Spock can kiss my butt…....kids need srtructure and dicipline. I got my asteroid beat if I screwed up when I was a kid. I have no hard feelings about it and looking back I should have recd more! Now you can’t dicipline kids without childre’s service being called. This is what weve become…..and we continue to perpetuate it. Too many people can’t say “I screwed up, it’s my fault” it’s always someone elses. Certain offenders should be castrated. An eye for an eye would be fine by me…..
