BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio—A pet’s skull was crushed, and police reports said the Chihuahua’s owner is suspected in the crime. Police said the suspect’s teen daughter watched and was the one who called authorities.

WARNING: The video contains images of the dog’s dead body.

NBC 4 reported on WHERE THIS STORY STANDS.

Retta McKibben’s 14-year-old daughter called authorities Tuesday, July 7, saying her mom was drunk and had slammed her pet Chihuahua, Zoe, into the ground, killing it, according to Buckeye Lake police.

Officers found the dog’s body outside McKibben’s home. Police said Zoey was wrapped in a blanket and placed on a chair next to a trash can.

Buckeye Lake resident Retta McKibben was taken into police custody and charged with animal cruelty.

The dog’s skull was crushed and its spinal cord was ripped away from the base of its skull, according to a necropsy report.

Neighbor Christy Housley said McKibben loved her four dogs and helped find homes for other animals. Housley said she got her dog Sable from McKibben.

Authorities said McKibben had a fairly clean record previously.

She was ticketed two weeks ago after one of McKibben’s other dogs got out of her house and attacked another dog. McKibben also had some traffic violations.

McKibben’s other three dogs were taken into custody by animal officials.

She was arraigned in court Tuesday. McKibben received a $,5000 cash surety bond.

She could face as much as 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fee in the misdemeanor charge.

This lady really needs help.  I hope and pray she gets help for her alcohol addiction.  How sad.

Nicholas and any other family members that have been reading these posts, I apologize on behalf of everyone that has degraded your mother on here.  No one is perfect and some seem to spiral down a path of no hope, alhtough there is always hope.  Just remember that you know the story behind everything and it is no ones business.  I hope that she gets the help she needs to overcome this obstacle so that she can become the person she once was.  You and your family are in my prayers.

Lawmakers really need to pass into law that whatever a person does to anyone or anything, including animals, should be done to them. It isn’t cruel and unusual punishment if you can do it yourself, then the same thing should happen to you!!! Alcohol is NO excuse !! I am sorry , I think the lady needs to have someone slam her into something until her skull is crushed and spine seperates. I mean really how do you think that dog felt having to go through it.
I am just sick of hearing people say she needed help , well it shouldn’t have came to this , before someone got her the treatment that she needs.
Are her kids really safe to be around her?? I think not since she is SO SICK and NEEDS HELP ...

Her daughter is a hero. My thoughts and prayers go out to her. I don’t believe there is any hope for her mother. Anyone who can be so evil will be a serious challenge to rehabilitate. I agree with everyone who says they hope children services pays close attention to this case. What the daughter did was the right thing, and I pray that God will protect her.

I am not making excuses for her actions or did I ever say she shouldn’t be punished. For all of you to judge her with no other knowledge of her then this is a mistake. You have no idea of her past situations. I stated she should be punished and what she did was a shame and very wrong.
Some accuse this woman you DON’T know of abuse. Some say getting help won’t do anything for her drinking. I am an alcoholic and have been sober for 2 1/2 years now thanks to “getting help”. I NEVER harmed anyone or any animal, but do know the mind of an alcoholic is not normal. I never made excuses for her or her actions, I simply asked for Prayers for her family.
I want her to serve time and be sent to treatment more than ANY of you because I know how much it an help change a persons life. I will do anything for my niece and nephew, and getting their mother help is the best way. I am sorry if I come off sounding rude, but your anger and horrible words make you sound NO BETTER than how she is right now.

I agree that this is a terrible event that has occured.  I can only imagine the emotions of that poor little girl.  They do need to do more to prevent this type of behavior (like ban alcohol). I would never have a pet, I am not an animal person plus I feel that there are people that need help out here and they are higher on the chain than animals.  But intentionally murdering or hurting an animal is sad and cruel especially in front of a child. :0(
