NBC 4 reported on WHERE THIS STORY STANDS.
Retta McKibben’s 14-year-old daughter called authorities Tuesday, July 7, saying her mom was drunk and had slammed her pet Chihuahua, Zoe, into the ground, killing it, according to Buckeye Lake police.
Officers found the dog’s body outside McKibben’s home. Police said Zoey was wrapped in a blanket and placed on a chair next to a trash can.
Buckeye Lake resident Retta McKibben was taken into police custody and charged with animal cruelty.
The dog’s skull was crushed and its spinal cord was ripped away from the base of its skull, according to a necropsy report.
Neighbor Christy Housley said McKibben loved her four dogs and helped find homes for other animals. Housley said she got her dog Sable from McKibben.
Authorities said McKibben had a fairly clean record previously.
She was ticketed two weeks ago after one of McKibben’s other dogs got out of her house and attacked another dog. McKibben also had some traffic violations.
McKibben’s other three dogs were taken into custody by animal officials.
She was arraigned in court Tuesday. McKibben received a $,5000 cash surety bond.
She could face as much as 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fee in the misdemeanor charge.

she and the firefighter should probably date, they seem to have something in common. They are both murderers of innocent defenseless dogs
I have a chihuahua in my family and they are delicate little dogs. Although some of them may be yappy or aggressive (thank God mine isn’t), how much damage can they do? This doggie killer should be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by law and NEVER be allowed to “own” another animal. What she did was cruel and inexcusable!
Will all of you “Eye-for-an-eye” people move to Iran already. Listen, I love dogs but they are bought and sold as a product. I am not condoning killing dogs but human execution in return…turn off Ellen and get a grip.
Licking County will be handling this case. Maybe Judge there will give this idiot 90 days STRAIGHT to serve no the 90 days in “payments” like Franklin County gave the firefighter. After all Judge there has said he will take away the licenses of the two officers caught flying low on motorcycles.
We can hope they are tougher in Newark then in Columbus on cases like this.
Here we go again.
Execution of a human for the intentional wrongful killing of a healthy animal.
She SHOULD be punished, but to me, her death seems a bit overkill [not pin].
This woman is a sick and horrible excuse for a human being. Who could do that sort of thing to a helpless animal? Society would be much better off if this woman was dead.
She needs to go the way of the fireman and any others that abuse animals. This poor little dog couldnt’ have weighed more than a few pounds - It doesn’t matter that she was drunk - this is animal cruelty and she should get the full sentence. Remember most serial killers start out abusing animals.
I wonder how she would like being thrown against a stone wall until her skull was crushed and detached from her spine. An eye for an eye.
