Ex-PTA President To Pay Back $11K
COLUMBUS, Ohio—A former PTA president was sentenced Friday after she was accused of stealing thousands from a local school.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Gail Takacs was the PTA president of Reynoldsburg’s Hannah Ashton Middle School.
Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien said the 49-year-old took more than $14,000 during her time as the school’s only PTA member and subsequent president between 2005 and 2007.
The Reynoldsburg School District said the school’s principal became suspicious of Takacs after donations from the PTA stopped coming in.
An audit revealed thousands of dollars were missing.
“Primarily over-reimbursement for expenses she had accrued and was entitled to seek reimbursement for, but over-reimbursed herself for the amounts involved,“ O’Brien said.
NBC 4 spoke to Takacs in July 2008. She said she was willing to rectify any problems with the school but said she doesn’t believe the amount she may owe the school is anywhere near the $14,000 claimed by authorities.
Takacs was sentenced today to five years of community control and she was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $11,000.
If she violates her terms of community control or probation, she could face a prison term of as many as eight months.

Is it a huge surprise that the Reynoldsburg City School District can’t figure out how much money is missing? They can’t even figure out what is in their current budget.
