DELAWARE, Ohio—A man was found guilty of injuring a K-9 deputy by punching the dog several times in the face.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Jeffrey L. Metz, 45, was found guilty Wednesday in the Delaware County Common Pleas Court, according to Prosecutor David Yost.

Metz was driving more than 90 miles per hour on U.S. Route 42 northbound last January, according to Delaware County sheriff’s deputies.

When deputies attempted to pull over Metz, he continued to speed, and a high-speed pursuit ensued.

He spun out and stopped in a field.

Metz refused to listen to deputies’ orders to get out of his vehicle. After numerous commands, K-9 deputy Thor was sent in to remove Metz.

Metz punched Thor several times in the head and throat, breaking the dog’s tooth.

He was charged and convicted on one count failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony, and one count of assaulting a police dog, a fourth-degree felony.

Metz’ sentencing was scheduled for Monday, July 27, before Common Pleas Judge Everett H. Krueger.

He faces up to six-and-a-half years in prison.

It was the first felony conviction involving a K-9 assault in Delaware County’s criminal history.

I figured, but just in case someone read it wrong. I try to downplay anyone’s opinion either unless they specifically attack mine. :)

My apologies, I meant to refer to the anatomy part of Mikes comment.  I was not trying to criticize nor downplay anybodies personal opinions on here.

Just in case my comment wasnt clear or it was misread, “Knowing Thor and what K-9’s are trained to do Metz is lucky he didn’t get his throat ripped out.“ He was LUCKY that this didn’t happen, didn’t say I wished it happned.

okay. I can understand a violent thoughts towards murderers and sex offenders. And I admitted that he chose very poor judgement, yet I try very hard to be caring and understanding as well as open minded and since this man didn’t cause harm besides the dog (I am in no way claiming the dogs pain deserves no justice) but to wish the dog tore out his throat just seems a bit hateful.
I am an advocate for understaing human ways and realizing that no one is perfect.  If it were the case than we wouldn’t need laws or police officers. Unfortunately there are several medical conditions that cause people to act ignorant(poor jusdgment/bad decisions.  I would agree that this man should be injured had he intentionally attacked the dog.  I know for a fact that the man woke to the dog on him and only had a natural reaction.  And yes he was a complete idiot for running from the police because the entire situation could have been avoided had he made a more intelligent decision.
I am in no way trying to manipulate how you feel. As I appreciate for no one to try to change how I feel. I am simply expressing my opinion.
Mike if you are a father I wish you a very happy Fathers day!! :-)

sure hope the dog wasn’t traumatized by this incident and can continue assisting the Delaware officers in chasing down retards like this one

Hey Maumi, even if you put the officers’ lives aside, think about it.  If he had run down and killed some kid playing in the street because he was acting like an idiot is that what you would tell the family “Don’t be angry your child is dead, he didn’t intentionally do it he just used poor judgment”?  That could have happened, he could have run another car off the road killing that driver, the lives of the officers were in danger.  He put many lives in danger, I have no respect for anyone who violates the law on this level.  I have no tolerance for people who put innocent lives in danger, dope dealers, sex offenders.  These people are what is wrong with our society

OMG….we do not know the mans story.  I understand that the cops had to risk themselves chasing the fool.  But why would you be so hateful to wish this man bodily harm.  He made stupid pi$$ poor judgement, he didn’t intentionally hurt anyone.

Thor should have removed a certain piece of Metz’s anatomy, that will teach him to run from the police and then assault the dog

I happen to know the K-9 handler as well as the K-9 Thor personally and know that both take their job very seriously. Thor is well trained and is very good at his job. I find it hard to believe knowing them personally that Metz was completely innocent in what transpired and that it was a conspiracy of the officers involved, the prosecutor, and the judge to “put it to it” someone completely innocent. Absurd! Knowing Thor and what K-9’s are trained to do Metz is lucky he didn’t get his throat ripped out.

I know that Thor is part of the officers family and is very much loved by his children as well. I pray for a speedy recover for him and hope that he is able to return to duty doing what he loves.

How do you know he was knocked unconscious? It says nothing about that and just because he wrecked doesn’t mean he was knocked out.  Also for acting like such an idiot he deserved the dog tearing into him a little bit, he could have killed somebody because morons like him actually think they can get away from the police…you can’t outrun the radio so don’t bother.
