COLUMBUS, Ohio—A Columbus man was sentenced Friday for assaulting a 1-year-old child.

Shane Woods, 21, was arrested in Nov. 2008 and charged with felonious assault and endangering children.

Woods pleaded guilty Friday to felonious assault in the second degree and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Columbus police said the 1-year-old victim was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital with a skull fracture, multiple lacerations to her intestines and bruises all over her body that police said was caused by blunt-force trauma.

The injuries required immediate, emergency surgery, police said.

Investigators said Shane Woods was caring for the baby when she was hurt, but his connection to the baby remained unclear.

Definitely not a good thing, and a person should truly be able to contain themselves, but sometimes this kind of rage happens.

One of my friends baby’s had colic for close to a year.  He never wanted to hurt the baby, but he said it was tremendously difficult to go through.  He and his wife aren’t having any more kids because of it.

Seriously?  They need to create a database and track people like this poor excuse for a human being.  Treat them like sex offenders.  People who hurt children are never cured they continue to hurt them.  What kind of person fractures a baby’s skull?
