Marion Authorities Teams Up On Drug Fight

MARION, Ohio—Marion Police Lieutenant B.J. Gruber said his department, the local post of the Highway Patrol and the county sheriff’s office had begun a saturation effort Thursday night designed to discourage day-to-day criminal activity in the county.

Officers from all the agencies talked about the operation Saturday and pointed out that the sweep of warrants served had resulted in 139 arrests, eight of them felony apprehensions.

The objected was to make it tough to do any drug business in Marion.

Several seizures of drug materials were part of the effort.

Some of the drugs seized were heroin, which Lt. Gruber said is becoming an increasing problem with the drug flowing northward out of Columbus to the Marion area.

“It didn’t used to be a problem,“ the lieutenant told NBC 4.

The law enforcement representatives said they would total up the arrests and anti-crime events after the final day.  They said they are getting positive feedback from average citizens regarding the project.
