No Motive, Suspect In Newark Fatal Stabbing

NEWARK, Ohio—A disturbance call turned into a murder investigation late Monday.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Newark police continued to work to find a suspect or a motive in a fatal stabbing.

Officers were called to 59 W. Harrison St. shortly before 10:15 p.m. Monday on reports of a disturbance.

Officers questioned residents at the boarding house but were unable to determine who made the call to police.

Officers began to check the home and found the body of 25-year-old John T. Snouffer in an upstairs room.

Snouffer was fatally stabbed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“They brought a body bag out,” neighbor Ryin Nethers said.

“I think it was very recent with the call we received,” Newark Sgt. Scott Snow said about the stabbing.

Donna Queen lives across the street from the boarding home and she said she finds the situation “unreal.”

“It’s scary. You don’t think something like that would happen so close—I mean right across the street,” Queen said.

What neighbors said made them more uneasy is the fact the suspect remains on the loose and the motive for the stabbing remained unclear.

“We do not have a suspect at this time nor do we have a description to put out on a suspect.” Snow said.   

Licking County Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of as much as $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the homicide.
