Officer Charged In Motorcyclist Shooting
Published: July 3, 2009
TOLEDO, Ohio—A police officer in northwestern Ohio has been charged in the shooting of a motorcyclist during a May traffic stop.
Thomas White, an officer in the Toledo suburb of Ottawa Hills, faces a charge of felonious assault. A grand jury indicted White of Friday.
A lawsuit previously filed says the man shot during the traffic stop was paralyzed.
Court records say two motorcyclists led police on a short chase after failing to stop for officers.
It’s not clear why the officer fired at one of the suspects. A message seeking comment was left Thursday with Jerry Phillips, the officer’s attorney.
