CPD Looks For Boyfriend After Fatal Shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Columbus police continued to search for a homicide suspect after a woman was fatally shot overnight.

NBC 4’s Marcus Thorpe reported from the scene with the FAST FACTS.

Authorities were called to 4286 Dresden St. at about 12:53 a.m. on reports of a fatal shooting.

The victim was 21-year-old Chaunta Serrano, and Serrano’s family and police said the likely suspect in the homicide is Serrano’s boyfriend.

Columbus police released a report Wednesday morning that named 26-year-old Ronald B. Williams as the homicide suspect.

Serrano and Williams had been dating for about five to six months, according to the family. Some on-the-scene family members said they haven’t met Serrano’s boyfriend.

Serrano’s brother, Leekem Carter, apparently was in the North Side apartment when the shooting happened.

Carter was sitting in the apartment living room when he said there was some sort of disagreement or argument between Serrano and Williams.

Serrano and William were in a bedroom.

William started to walk out of the bedroom and then walked back into the room.

Carter said he heard his sister shout, “I was just playing. I was just playing.”

Serrano’s brother said the boyfriend fired one shot that struck her in the head. Carter said Serrano was killed instantly.

Medics pronounced Serrano dead at the scene at 1:04 a.m., police said.

Serrano was a mother of three, and her three children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

Columbus police continued to search for Williams.

Anyone with information on the city’s 65th homicide was asked to call CPD’s homicide squad at 614-645-4730.

No more immediate information was available.
