COLUMBUS, Ohio—Officials have determined that the stabbing death of an 18-year-old man at Comfest last weekend was accidental, not criminal as first indicated.

Columbus police were dispatched to Goodale Park, 120 W. Goodale St., on a disturbance call at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers saw two people: One was covered in blood. The second was spotted near the first, blood-covered person, according to CPD Sgt. Rich Weiner. The second person was held for questioning.

A knife was recovered, and witnesses also were questioned, Weiner said.

Victim Bryan Barbin, 18, suffered four to five stab wounds and died from his injuries early Sunday at Grant Medical Center.

Officers questioned a suspect a short time after the incident, according to Columbus police radio dispatchers.

However, according to police, the investigation revealed the stabbing was not criminal in nature and Barbin’s death was ruled accidental, pending the coroner’s autopsy results.

The rules of this site states that we should “respect others”, however, are we respecting the barbin family with all of the vulgar posts on here? i agree that this is a confusing and troubling story, however, the comments listed here are not neccessary and completly heartless. This is someones son, sibling, nephew and friend. Making rude comments about an investigation on this site seems inapropriate. Consider the people who could be reading the comments left here and the pain they are already feeling before reading.

Well several witnesses all stated the same thing that the other young man was apologizing profusely. What was he apologizing for? I am not placing blame I just find that weird.

The above quote means do not waste your time trying to determine cause until after the autopsy. The NBC4 Report wanted to get her story out and chose to write something. Common sense should be use first. So wait for the coroner’s report.

Unless we actually hear with our own ears the police officers who supposedly changed the offense to an accident, who are we to say that’s what was said? I don’t believe everything the media claims on a daily basis. I trust a police officer before I trust a juicy news story after the spin has been added. So if we need to get rid of our police officers, are you going to call a reporter the next time something criminal happens to you? Who are you going to call for help if you need it? Are you going to call the mayor because he’s gotten rid of so many police officers for you that you have no one else to call? ABSURD! It can be considered an accident if the person was distraught and his friend couldn’t help him. The only other thing they could call it is a suicide…but it doesn’t seem like he was trying to kill himself, only inflict pain for his emotional distress and his friend was sorry he couldn’t stop him. It’s not the police’s fault that it happend…so why blaim them for what you read or hear on TV?

The one thing that leaves me so confused about the situation is why the person they said was his buddy was profusely apologizing. Apologizing for what if he didn’t stab him? It makes no sense, if he didn’t stab him there would be no reason to apologize. Maybe his friend supplied him with drugs and felt as if it was his fault because they messed the young man up and lead him to make a bad decision. There obviously is more to this then any of us in the public know about. Stabbing yourself five times certainly does seem impossible though. I saw the kid being carted out of there right in front of me and he was motionless. My prayers go out to his family. Very sad.

I must admit that I’m perplexed by this one?

“Victim Bryan Barbin, 18, suffered four to five stab wounds and died from his injuries early Sunday at Grant Medical Center.“

Let’s see how this works.  I pull out my knife, just messing around with it, you know.  Then I accidentally stab myself.  Hmmm.  What’s the next thing I do?  Well, gee, I accidentally stab myself again while trying to what, put it away?  Oh no, I keep ON stabbing myself because I’m just so stupid I can’t figure out that stabbing myself is a BAD thing.  So what the heck, I’m already hurt, I may as well just KEEP STABBING. Stab, stab, stab, stab, stab.  Sure thing, I buy this pile of garbage they call an “investigation”.  Accidentally stabbing yourself 5 times, RIGHT!  Maybe the mayor really DOES need to get rid of some cops.  I bet the accidental victims family is outraged at this coverup.  Can’t have the Comfest or Columbus looking bad no, can we?  Can’t have murder number 41 happening just quite YET.

Give it time, it’s just around the corner folks…

I call BS on this so called “investigation”.

Accidental?
How is 4 to 5 stab wounds an accident?

I’m really shocked.
