TROY, Ohio—Police in western Ohio say a woman told a gas-station attendant that she had shot her estranged husband and then shot herself rather than obey officers’ commands to get out of her vehicle.

The Miami County coroner says 61-year-old Sherry Bryant died Sunday of a single gunshot to the head. The sheriff says she had a .38-caliber revolver.

The body of her husband, 65-year-old Sidney Bryant, was found in the parking lot of an apartment building in Troy, 18 miles north of Dayton. Police say he had been shot in the face.

The Miami County sheriff says investigators found a letter at the woman’s home that alludes to issues between the couple. The sheriff says deputies were familiar with the couple from domestic calls to their home.
