LANCASTER, Ohio—A Lancaster man who allegedly destroyed a grave marker using a sledge hammer was arrested Friday.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Steven C. Locke, 21, of Lancaster destroyed a grave marker at the Floral Hills Memory Gardens Wednesday, Oct. 14, because he was upset the decedent’s daughter would not date him, Fairfield County Sheriff Dave Phalen said.

Phalen said Locke felt he wanted to teach her a lesson and that this was perhaps the best way to hurt her.

Phalen said Locke currently was being held in the Fairfield County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bond.

Vandalism is a felony of the fifth degree, and, if convicted, Locke could spend up to a year in prison.

Phalen said additional charges may be forthcoming pending a presentation to a Fairfield County Grand Jury.
