“Violence in this City is worse than I’ve ever seen and I have lived here most of my 44 years”

Whatever you do, don’t let facts or statistics stand in the way of your doom and gloom.  Violent crime was down in 2008 by 7.5% and Columbus had a lower violent crime rate than Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton, or Toledo.

Deadbob, no offense, but how can you lament the fact that Columbus is seeing more and more violent crime, and then in the next breath bash the city for asking for more money? In case you haven’t noticed, Columbus has been laying off HUNDREDS of police officers lately, the department still receives inadequate funds. How can local government make the city safer with no money? You can’t have it both ways.

This was a homicide.  No one stabs someone 4 to 5 times just messing around.  So many of you tell one another to “get your facts straight” when you know no facts yourself.

Fact; A man died after being stabbed by another, which is a homicide.  When, why, how, is for the investigators to determine and I am sure that they will not be calling any of you for advice or information who didn’t witness this incident.

Comm Fest is as I know it, a festival celebrating our community.  As is this community, the festival goers are as diverse as our population.  Like it or not, elements of our community are bad.  If you hide from this fact, you are ignorant.  Believe what you believe, teach your children the same, but don’t ignore the dangers.

Comm Fest organizers try hard to provide an event that is appealing to all.  They fall far short in the security aspect of this.  In my opinion the organizers only see the part of the community they like and not the community as a whole.  The organizers I have encountered (and you will just have to take my word for this…if you knew me you would understand) hold law enforcement as a necessary “evil” and make little effort to hide their feelings about this.  In short, without going into specifics, their priorities are wishy washy at best, more concerned about perception than safety for festival goers.

I saw the young man who was stabbed being taken out by medics through the crowd and me and my family sat very near to where the incident occurred. I am deeply saddened that a tragedy like this happened at an event that I have enjoyed coming back to for many years. I have to agree that things have become ‘out of hand’ and it was inevitable that this kind of event happened. The crowds are way bigger, and there is a bad vibe around. The festival committee needs to adapt to keep people safe and able to enjoy future festivals.

Everyone is being so negative about this.  That’s not the spirit of Comfest.

What about the thousands of people who weren’t stabbed?  Why isn’t anyone talking about them?

Well wait and see what next weekend brings. Red White & Boom could be worse. It’s an accident[s] waiting to happen. Columbus is beginning to swirl down the drain, quickly I might add. Coleman and his croonies will tell you that on July 6th,when Coleman tells Citizens to pay up or expect more of the same. Violence in this City is worse than I’ve ever seen and I have lived here most of my 44 years. If I had the money to move I’d be gone along with other members of my family. Comfest is going to be the litmous for what the future brings. You can not go any where in this City to family functions or outings without a small percent of idiots! Wait and see Coleman tell us citizens it’s going to get worse IF we don’t give him more money for the City [sounds like extortion well it is] For those brave few to venture to Red White & Boom good luck on being safe and secure. You couldn’t pay me to get within 5 miles of the upcoming fiasco. But mark my words if Red White & Boom turns violent Coleman is going to be there with his hands out, and he’ll extort this city to no end. Have a safe holiday everyone and watch your wallet & pocket book for someone is watching right along with you.

user 35 why have the signs all around every park including goodale state alcohol prohibitted year round? you can not consume alcohol in city or state parks and the comfest stated 40,000 cans collected last year, when they asked for comfest goers to volunteer and help clean up? note the signs this year, if you bring it in you take it out with you, on the same one saying no byob? and more beer sales at the stores is more tax money not more cheap beer for high prices at the comfest boothes. they rented the space and keep the money for their operating budget that was over 350,000 this year. it was all in the dispatch and was from the head of the festival. who also said the byob wasnt profit driven. lol

Almost everyones wrong. This year was the first comfest that you could not byob because of the initiative to clean ohios parks. Plus this will save us lots of tax dollars. And how could someone stab a guy 5 times and say it was an accident?

hossua34 i said it was only enforced this year responding to a post saying it has always ben illegal, wich it has just never enforced and almost promoted until a lack of volunteers to clean up the huge mess that was left. then someone relized how much money they were missing as a 12 pack of cans cost the same as a few tokens. if you have ever ben in the last 10 years then you know people abused the ability to bring their own drinks by bring multiple coolers full. so lets read befor we jump to conclusions. i lived a few blocks from there for 28 years and watched it grow from the gravel lot that now has condos to the move acroos the street to goodale park. yes this year they were searching coolers but it didnt stop everyone is there were others empty cans by you. lets go without the beer altoghther next year like it should be in parks or move the comfest out of the park.

Scooldude you are also way wrong. I was there on Friday and the security staff basically harassed us for 5 minutes because there were some empty beer cans near where we were sitting, and they kept claiming they were ours. They definitely enforce BYOB. Pot, you are right, they typically ignore. But hey - I don’t know what happened last night but I can GUARANTEE you it wasn’t over weed / because someone got high.
