Awesomeguy, you don’t know what you’re talking about. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened at Comfest in over 35 years. People who go to Comfest are NOT in the same boat as bandana-wearing, ultra-left “anarchists” who go to protests to stir things up; they are people looking to have a relaxed, laid-back time.
On top of that, other news sources are reporting that the victim and the stabber were friends, and that they appeared to be messing around right before the stabbing happened (like wrestling). The stabber apologized profusely after the stabbing… Sounds like some drunken accident where the guy didn’t realize the knife was open, or something similar.
Get your facts straight before running your mouth.
Far too many beatniks running around barefoot, a serious stubbing was inevitable.
byob was never legal and never enforced such as smoking pot. if you watched those coming and going u would see several coolers fool and the lines a the store would be mainly can beer sales. the crowds were alot smaller aswell. so being illegal and having the cops that are paid for by comfest(53,000) not “see” the 40,000 cans being consumed seems as beig allowed. this year they see what has ben going on for many years, as with the pot smoking that they chose not to smell.
also, awesomeguy: comfest stopped being a hippy festival years ago. if you didn’t notice, it’s now full of rap music, drunks, drug addicts, and white trash.
hardly what I’d equate with the kind of people who go to protests.
but any large group and you’ll get the sort of “crap of society” involved.
although the people knew each other, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. mix beer, loud music and huge crowds and there’s only so much 100 cops can do. they need to organize this event a lot better. it isn’t the 70s anymore. when you get almost 60,000 people together, you need to have a lot more security. I was thinking this on the way out last night before I even knew this happened.
The amount of ignorance in these comments baffles me. First of all, COMFEST has never allowed BYOB. As the Comfest website says, it has always been illegal to bring alcohol into a city park, per City Ordinance: Section 919.99. Second, the festival attracts a huge crowd of diverse people, only a small fraction of which are hippies. Perhaps you are thinking of the COMFEST of twenty years ago. Third, anytime you get 60,000 people in the same place, something is bound to happen. It’s not ironic, just unfortunate.
the hilltop by far is safer than victorian village any day. and the bean dinner was as big as the comfest too. get real and the comfest is a gathering of people everywhere not just the hilltop. but it is odd that the first year no byob and you get the first killing. im glad though be that many years i lived by there and had to clean up after many drunks and watch them pee anyplace they wanted.
How do u hide money from a hippie?
AwesomeGuy—why so quick to judge?
Did you watch the newscast at 11pm? They said that the two people involved knew each other. So, before you jump the gun, thinking that this incident happened because of bunch of peace loving “activist” hippies ..... get your facts right. If you want to see a bunch of close minded, evil, and violent individuals….. you need to look elsewhere other then Comfest. My opinion, it’s the ones who are quick to judge that tend to cause the trouble. ;)
Violence breaking out when a bunch of peace loving “activist” hippies gather together is hardly news. Just check most of the videos at protestwarrior.com to see how close minded, evil, and violent these freaks are.
