Suspect In Mom’s Fatal Beating Refused Bond

A Franklin County judge refuses bond for a man accused of murdering a Columbus woman in front of their two children.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A judge refused to grant bond Thursday for a man suspected in the fatal beating of a Columbus woman.

Fred D. Brooks was refused bond during his arraignment in a Franklin County Municipal courtroom. He was considered a danger to the community.
Christie Lyles, 21, was murdered, fatally beaten in front of her own children Sunday, Sept. 13, and Brooks was accused in her murder.
Lyles’ mother, Misty Dawson, went to her daughter’s Southeast Side home at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
Dawson found Lyles facedown on the kitchen floor and unresponsive at her Lilley Avenue apartment. Medics pronounced 21-year-old Lyles dead at the scene.
Lyles’ two young children, a 3-month-old and a 2-year-old, were beside Lyles. They were unharmed and currently are with family.
CPD named the children’s father, Brooks, as a suspect in Lyles’ murder Monday.
Brooks turned himself into Michigan state police in Pontiac, Mich., Wednesday Sept. 16, according to CPD.
He was extradited to Columbus, Ohio, Wednesday, Sept. 23.
He faces murder charges and was to remain in the Franklin County Jail until his next court appearance.
