COLUMBUS, Ohio—Officials are offering a reward for tips in two crimes rolled into one.

It began with a theft in southeast Franklin County and ended with a $7,000 forgery in downtown Columbus.

On May 20 at about noon, a teacher’s wallet was stolen out of her classroom at the Asbury Elementary School on Harbor Boulevard.

Then, at 4:53 p.m. the same day, the victim’s credit card was used for purchases totaling more than $7,000 at Moses Jewelers located on S. High Street in downtown Columbus.

“Somehow, someone was able to gain entry into the Asbury School and this is in Madison Township and make their way, I think, into the music room where a teacher had her purse and they were able to steal the wallet containing credit cards and within hours, those credit cards were used in downtown Columbus,“ said Columbus police Det. Gerald Milner.

A couple was recorded by Moses Jewelers’ surveillance cameras as they used the stolen credit card.

The man was described as a black male in his early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds with a medium complexion. He was wearing a black cap, dark T-shirt and gray, baggy pants.

The woman was described as a white female in her early 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds with a fair complexion. She has long brown hair and was wearing a black tank top and jeans.

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers posted a reward of as much as $2,000 for any information received by Sunday, July 8, 2009, that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the persons responsible for the crime.

Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 645-TIPS (8477) or e-mail at http://www.stopcrime.org. You also can text a tip to CRIMES (274637) with keyword CMH.

To me Moses Jewelers should EAT THE LOSE of the $7,000.00 and enjoy all of it. It is retarded that any retailer would accept this card without valid photo id. Ohio needs to pass stronger laws since now all of us will have to pay for this. If thieves are caught they will likley get probation and never have to pay back any of the monies. Ohio is WEAK and we should all boycott retilers like the idiots at Moses Jewelers

I love it.
I tried to use my wifes credit card for a $50 purchase and they ran me through the ringer about I.D.
The B.M.V. doesnt even accept it’s own license as I.D.
