UPDATE: A ’tween escapee who was serving a sentence in connection with two South Side fires is apprehended again Monday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—A ’tween escapee who was serving a sentence in connection with two South Side fires was apprehended again Monday.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Ryan Parsley, 12, was sentenced to serve time at the New Horizons Facility in Bethesda, Ohio, for his connection in two South Side arsons.
He went AWOL after serving only one week of his sentence.
He escaped the staff-secured facility Tuesday, June 23, officials said.
Columbus fire’s bomb and investigative unit and the U.S. Marshals arrested Ryan at a home in the 600 block of Markison Avenue on the city’s South Side, according to Battalion Chief David Whiting.
Columbus fire’s Jeff Happ and Jeff Broughton assisted the U.S. Marshal’s office with information that led to Ryan’s arrest.
It was the second time Ryan had escaped custody.
Ryan Parsley was initially sentenced to confinement at a local juvenile detention center while he was facing charges.
He escaped from the facility Saturday, March 21, and was on the run for several weeks.
He was arrested Tuesday, April 14, after his family persuaded him to turn himself in.
After Parsley was found, a magistrate sentenced him to time at the New Horizons Facility.
New Horizons is a staff-secured facility, according to Franklin County Children Services. The arrangement was that Ryan would have one-on-one supervision at all times.
A spokesperson for FCCS said there was miscommunication between staff members at New Horizons regarding the supervision and Parsley escaped when he was unsupervised.
Also, as part of his sentencing, Parsley is to remain on probation until June 15, 2011.
The probation included a curfew set by his probation officer, inability to leave his county of residence without his probation officer’s permission, residential treatment, random drug testing, an electronic monitoring device as needed per his probation officer and no contact with co-defendants or other known gang members.

That is true in most cases, yet I can’t help but have a hint of sympathy for this child who was obviously coaxed by family members. This boy will get a second chance, it is a shame that due to his upbringing it is most likely too late for him. I pray he proves me wrong.
If you cant do the time don’t do the crime.
Sometimes the only way to stop the fire is to destroy the igniter.
Wow, that was a demoralizing comment. Seems that a pervert would be capable of making such a remark. Why would anyone wish any type of sexual harrassment towards a 12 year old child. He needs punishment not perverseness.
I still say he needs to have an “accident” happen to him.
Lock him up and let Bubba start a fire at his back door.
I agree schooldude, there are others that are to blame, he certainly didn’t make it back to the south side on his own. Sad as it may be, there is most likely no hope for this childs future. He will be taught how to commit more crimes and how to be sneakier while in the correctional facility.
send him to a state facility and give him until he is 21. he is a criminal following his fathers steps, and if he is to change it will be up to him and 9 years is plenty of time to figure out if he wants to have an extended stay again. how does a 12 year old kid survive alone, as i havent read anything on who else is getting charged for harboring like they did the cop killer that escaped in southern ohio. arrest them all im sure we are paying for them one way or another and id rather it be in jail than welfare and foodstamps.
He needs help seriously. It is sad that this 12 year old boy is following what he knows (what his father taught him) and now he is pretty much going to live a life of crime.
Another sad case of reality and the affect it has on the youth of our society.
The juvenile facility is blame as well for not ensuring that he was monitored at all times as his sentencing required. They to have to pay the consequence for thier actions.
Send the little POS turd to Lucasville.
This felon should be put away for life.
baze, I do believe you hit the nail right on the head. Well said!
