Web Site Rates Local Neighborhoods Among Worst For Property Crime

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Everyone wants to live in a safe neighborhood, but when neighborhoodscout.com came out with its 15 worst neighborhoods for property crime, Columbus hit the mark—twice.

The Web site lists 12th Avenue at Summit Street and Lane at Neil avenues as two of the worst in the nation.

The Web site claims the results are from FBI stats on property crime only.

Some residents who live in the area said they are not necessarily surprised.

Some said they won’t even take out the trash at night on Summit because of the fear that someone is trying to target them.

Business managers along Neil and Lane avenues said they believe the distinction is overstated.

A manager at Tommy’s Pizza and Subs said he doesn’t see crime at his establishment or parking lot.

He said lights in and around the business play a big role in that.

Some residents said there have been some steps taken to make improvements.

“They have campus and Columbus police working together. (It) was a great move. There are jurisdiction problems,“ said area resident Rachel Hancock.

According to the web site, in each neighborhood, one in every two people will be victims—based on the statistics.
