Officials Release ID, Condition Of Girl Shot In Face

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A woman was shot in the parking lot of a campus-area fast-food restaurant early Monday.

The incident happened around midnight in the parking lot of the Taco Bell at North High Street and East 9th Avenue.

Witnesses said a vehicle pulled up to the restaurant and at least one of its occupants opened fire on a number of motorcyclists who were gathered in the restaurant’s parking lot. 

“A white car pulled up, uh, we thought it was firecrackers standing by the bikes. Ended up ducking. Heard six, seven shots – maybe a full clip. Everyone hit the deck, hid behind dumpsters,” a witness said.

As many as seven shots were heard, witnesses said.

Seventeen-year-old Colleen Jade Carpenter, who was not the intended target, was struck in the head, CPD said in a report.

She was shot in the face, according to officials.

Colleen was transported to OSU Medical Center Main in what authorities described as nonstable condition.

Colleen was in fair condition Tuesday morning, according to an OSU Medical Center spokesperson.

CPD located and detained three suspects shortly after.

“They were able to give us a pretty decent description of the vehicle, which assisted us greatly in making the apprehension that we have on the suspected shooter at this point,” an on-the-scene CPD officer said.

Police arrested the three suspects on East 5th Avenue and North 5th Street.

CPD identified the suspects as 24-year-old Myron K. Banks, 24-year-old Guy L. Banks and 21-year-old Chase M. Banks.

CPD charged the three suspects with felonious assault.
