1802 Vaccinated At CPH H1N1 Clinic Tuesday

COLUMBUS, Ohio —A half hour after the doors opened, all 1802 spots for the H1N1 vaccine were filled at the latest clinic to be held by Columbus Public Health.

The focus of the clinic was to vaccinate children ages 6 months to 4 years and children 5 to 18 years with underlying medical conditions. The clinic was also open for other high risk groups, including pregnant women, caretakers of children under 6 months and healthcare workers.

Some parents began waiting in line as early as 7:30 am Tuesday morning to make sure their children were vaccinated.

Jen Mastropietro said her three and a half hour wait was bearable.  “It wasn’t bad. It was inside which was nice. There were restrooms, a snack bar and chairs for everybody,“ explained Mastropietro.

Health officials say children 9 years and younger need to get a second dose of the vaccine 28 days or more after the first.  This second dose will build up the
proper immune response. Officials hope parents won’t have to face long lines the second time around and will be able to get the vaccine at their doctor’s office.

If more vaccine is not available for the second round, officials say there will be more clinics.
