VANATTA, Ohio—An off-duty firefighter driving on state Route 13 north of Newark reported seeing smoke coming out of the Legend Farm and Feed Supply Store Sunday.

The report brought 19 firefighting units from several nearby townships to attack the blaze on Mount Vernon Road at about 5:30 p.m. The fire ended up nearly destroying a large part of the business, officials said.

Early damage estimates were approximately $50,000.  An investigator was searching the scene for information regarding the cause.

Fire officials told NBC 4 that the owner had left the building at about 3 p.m.

There were no injuries reported with the fire.

It was a two-alarm fire, the second of the weekend for a Licking County business. Saturday a business on Main Street in Pataskala suffered severe damage in a daytime fire.
