2 Men Risk Lives To Save Children From Apartment Fire
MARION, Ohio—Two men displayed heroic actions when children were trapped in a burning apartment Friday.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
According to the state fire marshal’s office, the blaze occurred at a multi-unit apartment building on Blaine Avenue in Marion.
Marion fire officials said Sidney Chard was the first one who went into a burning apartment building Friday and grabbed a toddler, trying to save the child. Chard suffers from a mental disability.
Greg Mark, a former volunteer firefighter and neighbor, then went into the building and helped rescue two children.
Mark pulled a teenager and young child out of the burning home.
According to the Marion fire department, a 7-month-old girl and 3-year-old boy died in the fire.
Four children and four adults occupied the apartment.
The residents had pre-paid cell phones, but none of them had any minutes left. They could not call 911.
Firefighters said by the time they arrived, the fire was so intense no one could have survived.
A cause has not been determined.

Per Federal Communication Commisssion, even if you have a prepaid cell phone you are still able to call 911. Unfortunatly alot of people are not aware of this. I think all cell phone providers should advise people of this informtation as a just in case scenario. It still is a tragic loss that the 7 month old and 3 year old did not make it. Also it is nice to know there are still people out there willing to help others.
It may have been mentioned; I beleive all active cell phones are capable of calling 911 by law. Even if you have no time avaliable. I have an old phone from 2001 and can still dial 911.
Excuse if already noted. Havent logged in for couple days. Can’t miss my Saturday morn NBC4. GO4
