A two-school lockdown is lifted after CPD recovers a firearm and two students are arrested Monday morning.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Two students were arrested after two Columbus City Schools were placed on lockdown Monday morning.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Maize Elementary School at 4360 Maize Rd., Columbus, and Brookhaven High School at 4077 Karl Rd, Columbus, both were placed on a level 2 lockdown after 9 a.m., according to Columbus police.
The schools were locked down after a student told a school-resource officer about a possible firearm on school grounds, CPD said.
Two students were arrested and a firearm was recovered before 10 a.m., said Sgt. Rich Weiner, CPD public information officer.
The arrested students attend Linden-McKinley High School at 1320 Duxberry Ave., Columbus.
CPD said the student suspects originally were on school grounds at Brookhaven but weren’t on school grounds when arrested. The students were arrested in the area, south of Brookhaven.
CPD said the two students would be charged. There wasn’t any immediate information on the exact charges.
All three schools are located on the city’s North Side and are part of Columbus City Schools.
CCS Spokesperson Kim Norris said both schools were on a level 1 lockdown, not a level 2.
Norris said the incident began when two high schoolers entered Brookhaven and it was clear they were not students at the school. She said the two Linden-McKinley students were immediately identified, left the building and were headed towards Maize Elementary.
She said the security officer alerted Maize, which was why the elementary went on a temporary lockdown.
The lockdowns were lifted before 10 a.m., according to CPD.

Reader Reactions
Shadow3339, read all the comments before you prove to us your ignorance level.
Dear maumi, After reading your reply I do apolagize. I see that you are not what your very short comment made you to be. Also I do have children and in fact will be attending my oldest childs graduation on Sunday. He has graduated at the very top of his class and with presidential honors and has joined the United States Air Force. I also have my youngest in elementry school and he has finished this year as he has every other year at the top of his class and many awards and personal acheivments so maybe you shouldnt be so quick to judge. As for you Fap Fap I see you are still retarded as it says right in the article that the students that were arrested went to Linden Mckinley not Brookhaven. Please dont waste your time trying to talk with the big boys and girls perhaps you better get back to studying first. Sigh retards will be retards.
shadowracist they both go to Brookhaven. What of it
Wow…I am glad you know me so well, your the exact reason the law should be made. I communicate with my child so that would most likely never happen but if were to happen I sure wouldn’t call my child a punk nor would I say that it was okay…..I would guide them by teaching them consequences and doing whatever it takes to make them see that the behavior is not suitable at all….you on the other hand would call them punks, and whatever other ignorant insults that you could think of and drive them into actually using the fire arm…..as a matter of fact I hope you have no children because thay would most likely behave like you and be the cause of the next school shooting due to driving an already disturbed child overboard.
Maybe you should learn to read or properly interpret things before you misjudge ones comment…...whos the punk now??
Thats right Maumi, I call it like I see it. Punks are punks and people like you are the reason we have them. That license you are talking about, I am willing to bet that you would not be able to get one with such shortsightedness. Maybe something like this. Oh mom I carried a gun to school today. Oh thats ok son i just glad you told me about it. Or, hey mom my friend and I took a gun to school today and shot another student. Oh thats ok son you did the right thing by telling me about it. I hope you or your friend did not get hurt trying to get away. See the first paragraph again!
They need assistance/guidance….you sound like Coleman calling children punks…..and then we wonder what is wrong with our youth…....they need to recieve some positiveness from somewhere…..this is the reason I am pro-choice and feel that people need to pass a test and recieve a license in order to create life.
My my FapFap quit the laxadaisical retard I see. These punks had guns for petes sake. I bet if your kids went to Brookhaven or Maize your attitude would be different.
My my shadow, quit the racist I see.
Yes, and kids should be kids. But shouldn’t those kids have been in their own school, where they belonged? I’m sure they had no good reason for being at Brookhaven. This shows a clear lack of maturity.
As a schoolteacher, I can relate to the panic that can be caused by unfamiliar children suddenly walking around the building unescorted.
Did the two students actually have a gun? The article doesn’t say.
Oh, yes… Bravo to the young man or woman who reported them! THAT is true maturity.
Sigh, kids will be kids.
