You do have a right to move freely, however you do not have the right to operate a motor vehicle. People who choose to move about by operating MV’s have to comply with the laws to do so, and the checkpoints are just a way to make sure the operator’s are complying.
Thank you to “The Relic” for a voice of reason. This time of year we get way to many amateur drinkers. I would have no problem with going through a checkpoint, I do not drink and drive, my license is current and my vehicle has current and legal registration. Can the people who complain about the police and checkpoints say the same. The checkpoints are not a waste of time or money.
Yeah, and those five drunks were kept from possibly killing a family of five (or more). But like you said, what a “waste” of resources. Be thankful; they could have killed someone you care about.
what a waste of resources. why not divert this effort to patrol areas of city where major crimes taking place. south side residents complaining about needing more police assistance probably would have cherised extra patrols.
295 people had their right to move freely violated to catch 5 drunks.
5 people huh. Well I guess the extra cost was justified then.
