6 Indicted In Robbery Of Jewelry Vendor

WESTERVILLE, Ohio—Six people were indicted Thursday, accused in connection with the robbery of a jewelry vendor in Westerville.

The suspects are charged with one count each of conspiracy and interfering with interstate commerce for the April 3 robbery of a jewelry merchant in Westerville in which more than $1 million worth of jewelry was stolen.

Each count is punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

Named in the indictment are:
      * Oscar Ferero, 26, of Los Angeles
      * Fernando Patino Cruz, 25, of Los Angeles
      * Yhariel Allesandro Roverando-Mondragon, 38
      * Kevin Ismael Miranda, 29, of Los Angeles
      * Donald Jose Bonilla-Canales, 34
      * Bernardo Sanchez-Perez, 35, of Los Angeles

The indictment alleges that the men came to Columbus on April 1 and planned to rob one of the vendors attending a jewelry show at the Ohio State Fairgrounds.

An Indiana jeweler left a gem show at the Ohio Exhibition Center and ended up in a Fazoli’s parking lot in Westerville.

According to police, suddenly a silver Chrysler 300 pulled into the parking lot and blocked in his vehicle.

At least three men smashed out the windows of his SUV and grabbed two cases of jewelry—worth $1 million—from inside. 

The jeweler, a licensed handgun carrier, fired a weapon, striking the passenger side of the vehicle.

The indictment alleges that an unknown number of the conspirators rented a car and drove to Wayne, New Jersey. Westerville police detectives, with the assistance of FBI agents and Passaic County New Jersey Sheriff’s deputies, arrested the men on April 6 and recovered items stolen from the vendor in Westerville. All six have been in custody since their arrests.

The U.S. Marshals Service will transport the defendants to Ohio where court appearances will be scheduled.
