HILLIARD, Ohio—These days, many Central Ohio businesses are having a difficult time making ends meet.
One community has come up with a program it hopes will keep businesses alive and thriving until the economy improves.
Residents stand to save money, too.
For Terry Thurston, this is busy season. He owns Morning Light Photography in Hilliard, but he said even busy season isn’t as busy as it used to be.
“I’ve been averaging around 30 weddings a year, and this year, I’m not anywhere close to that,” he said.
He blamed the sluggish economy.
He’s one of 36 area business owners who have signed up for a new program they hope attracts new business, and residents stand to benefit as well.
The program is called the Hilliard Advantage, and it’s all about offering deals to those who live in Hilliard to keep local money from being spent elsewhere.
“Just to keep the dollars in Hilliard is a good program, I think,” Thurston said. He’s offering 10 percent off his wedding packages.
The program is simple. All residents have to do to take advantage of the deals is show the Hilliard Advantage card at a business that’s signed up for the program.
It’s a win-win. The business gets your business, and you save money.
Garry Troxel owns Bill’s Food Mart across town at 4235 Avery Rd.
He, too, signed up for the program and is offering 10 percent off deli items.
“It’s just a way to do something for the community,” he said. “I can go online and change. Say next month, maybe I want to give 5 cents off a gallon of fuel or maybe 12-pack of soda for a cheaper price. Each month I can change that.“
Those were just a couple of the many deals being offered.
